Hello to everyone and it's great to be here!!
I'm Jo-Ann and I have a Lady too! She is an Australian Terrier, black and tan, 15lbs and will be 12 years old in July. She was diagnosed with Cushings in Dec/05 and treated with Anipryl for a year because of where we live in Ontario (Canada). When we moved to Nevada she was put on Trilostane from Wedgewood and is currently on 35mgs daily. She was severely diabetic after 16 days on the trilo and is currently on Vetsulin (Caninsulin) 12.5iu's in am and 13.5 in pm. She has been diabetic since January 15/07 so our journey with diabetes has been for 14 months. And Lady does not like her injections!!! She keeps busy eating her dry food with a little treat on top while I do the shot! Her partial curve, Feb 28th, at our Nevada vet clinic showed the best numbers yet. :D
Lady's diet is a combination of different foods and has depended on where we are and what we can get. When we moved home in Oct/07 I had to adjust her diet a little but was able to get the US Royal Canin when we were there for January & February/08. She gets a total of 2 cups and 2 small kongs full of dry food in a day. She gets a small part of that food at lunch time as she can never go 12 hours without eating.
I could make this longer but I think that's good for now, take care,
Jo-Ann & Lady :)
PS- Jody, I understand your feelings about getting another dog! Lady is my buddy, my once-in-a-life time dog or my "heart" dog. I think another dog will find us someday but I know I'll never look for another one. Fostering is one thing I'd be interested in doing.

Jo-Ann's beloved Lady passed away yesterday... so I dug up this introduction that Jo-Ann posted last year when the forum first opened so you could learn a bit more about her.
Jo-Ann was able to post something over at the Cushings forum about Lady's struggles the past couple of months.

Godspeed to Lady and my heartfelt sympathy to Jo-Ann...

Dear Jo-Ann,
You were one of the first to greet me when I arrived here - but I loved Lady even if you hadn't greeted me so quickly.
Please accept our warmest and deepest condolences on Lady's passing. Keep that huge hole in your heart open, because I'm sure Lady will return and hover in it, and talk to you, when you least expect it.
I am so very, very sorry for your loss.

Jo-Ann,
I'm so sorry for the loss of your Lady. I know how broken-hearted you must be. It is 6 months ago, today, that I lost my beautiful girl.

Dear Jo-Ann,
I left you a message on the cushings board but had to post something here too. My heart is breaking for you dear friend. I know how hard this time is for you. We had so much in common with our little girls. Same name, both terriers and both with cushings and diabetes. Now they are together. How I wish there were words to help ease the pain and deep sense of loss you are feeling but know only too well that nothing I say can make you feel better. You were a great mom to Lady and she knew how much she was loved. I am so very sorry for the loss of your sweet precious Lady. I will call you later today. Please know I am here for you. Love and hugs being sent to you.

Hello,
I had forgotten about this posting and I'm so grateful to Natalie for digging it up right now.
Bonnie...you have no idea how many times I've thought of you this last few months. Daily Tramadol and Metacam gave me at least 9 more months with Lady than I would have had otherwise. She had a cast iron digestive system and would have kept on except for something blocking her passages connected to her breathing system. It became so hard for her to pass food and medication down her throat. I just love the image of Criss and Lady comparing notes together. :)
The image of Lady left in my mind since Wednesday evening is of her flying over the ground towards me, feet hardly touching the ground, ears back, mouth open with a big smile, eyes focused right on me. The pure joy of those moments, just the two of us together ....
CarolW...thanks for your thoughts, I KNOW how much you would have loved my little girl.
Margaret...I've been trying to follow your journey....thanks for your thoughts.
Anne...thanks to you too...I need to check out your thread to refresh my memory about your journey.
Peggy, thanks for your message and e-card. I need to check out what's been going on with Molly.
And thanks aren't enough for you, Natalie....you've been with us since the beginning of the diabetes battle. I didn't have the energy lately to post what's been going on with us. I could read and offer a little help here and there but just didn't know what to say when it came to our journey. There were just more and more moments when I felt so guilty for keeping her going. All so that I could put off how I'm feeling right now.
Must go now, thanks again,
Jo-Ann

Just saw your post Lynne, your thread was the first one I read on the Cushings forum way back in Feb/07. And I knew that I wasn't alone!! You've been such a comfort and a friend since then...looking forward to your call.

Oh, I just saw this and I'm so sorry Jo-Ann. I feel so ridiculous posting because I don't really know what to say. I know how sad this time is for you and I know how hard you worked to give Lady as good of a life as she gave you.
I hope very soon that gives you some comfort.

The Creation
When God had made the earth and sky
the flowers and the trees,
He then made all the animals
the fish, the birds and bees.
And when at last He'd finished
not one was quite the same.
He said, "I'll walk this world of mine
and give each one a name."
And so He traveled far and wide
and everywhere He went,
a little creature followed Him
until it's strength was spent.
When all were named upon the earth
and in the sky and sea,
the little creature said, "Dear Lord,
there's not one left for me."
Kindly the Father said to him,
"I've left you to the end.
I've turned my own name back to front
and called you dog, My friend."

Oh Dolly, thank you for your post....I love that dog is God spelled backward. And she did follow me everywhere till her strength was spent...:( It was so sad to watch her try to find me those last few weeks and not be able to, or even want to try. She would just give up and stay in a couple of places till I would return there. Most of the time I would move her with me.
We picked up her ashes on Friday so she's back home with us. Such a small little urn...

I felt more at peace after Chris "came home." His box, which is quite pretty, is on my husband's desk with his tags from his collar. But of course he's always "here" - we talk about him all the time...

Hi everyone,
Please check out our album....pictures of my precious girl in her better days!!
Jo-Ann & my Dollydog angel :)
Jo-Ann - or somebody - would you please help me find this album? I don't know how to. How about a link to it?
I really want to see the pictures, because I feel SUCH a huge kinship to Jo-Ann and her Australian Terrier - I've had this breed for quite a lot of years now - each dog different - only one diabetic! - no Cushings (whew).
Kwali, now 14.5, won't last forever; Kumbi, the diabetic, just might; haha! (he'll be 13 on 19 November).
But, Jo-Ann, the way you describe Lady is completely how my dogs have been, too.
I feel very sure Lady is hovering in that big hole in your heart, coming and talking to you, when you least expect it. All my passed-on dogs do that with me.

Hi Carol,
I found my album under Statistics when you click on Dollydog beside our avatar. There's probably another way to do it but that's how I found it. You can also get there by going through the Member's List, clicking on Dollydog...can't remember all the steps but that's a start.
I loved putting up the pictures...they brought back so many wonderful memories of our time together. So much fun and companionship...I know Carol and Jeff (k9cushings) understand the adventure of owning an Aussie Terrier.
I must post the little saying from the Australian Terrier website...that's a project for tomorrow.
Goodnight,
Jo-Ann & my Dollydog angel :)

Thanks, Jo-Ann and Natalie - I DID find the pictures! Love them! Lady is totally adorable! She and my Kwali look a lot alike. Kwali, now aged 14.5, is the same coloring as Lady. She lies on couches the same way Lady does. (I'm sure Lady is doing that at Rainbow Bridge; one doesn't change the habits of a lifetime.) ;-)

Happy Birthday to you!
Isn't it FUN, playing together up here at the Bridge! There goes a bunny - you go that way; I'll go this way, and we'll corner it!

Hey, Kwali! Hey, LADY!
Happy birthday from me, TOO! I'll make the third corner, you know; just because I was once almost totally blind doesn't mean I can't do that NOW - up here at the Bridge with all of you!
