Scotts Recalls Some Wild Bird Food

Scotts Miracle-Gro Co. is keeping an eye out for birds and bird-lovers.

The Marysville-based lawn and garden giant’s Scotts Co. LLC subsidiary this week launched a voluntary recall of five varieties of suet wild bird food products over concerns that they might contain peanut meal bought from Lynchburg, Va.-based Peanut Corp. of America’s Blakely, Ga., plant. Peanut Corp.’s products have become the center of a federal probe into a salmonella outbreak that has involved scores of illnesses and several deaths, including two in Ohio.

Scotts said it is considering legal action against Peanut Corp. to recover costs of the recall.

Requests for replacements or refunds can be placed at 1-866-512-8876 or online at scottswildbirdfood.com or scotts.com.

Thanks for posting that kath, we buy alot of bird seed, my mum had bought some suet don't know what kind, but the birds did not like it, so anyway I made a batch of my own, the woodpeckers seem to love it and the Goldfinches.:)

"The Scotts Co. LLC of Marysville, Ohio, expanded on March 20 its voluntary wild bird food suet recall to include five additional varieties and additional manufacturing date codes (from May 13, 2008 to Feb. 8, 2009) from its initial recall in mid-February.

"The newly recalled products may contain peanut meal from the Peanut Corp. of America’s facilities in Texas or Virginia and could be contaminated with Salmonella, Scotts reported."
