  • Introducing Schnapps......dog no 4!

    Meet my latest addition

Schnapps is a 9 year old salt and pepper miniature schnauzer and came to live with me full time just this week.
I have had her off and on for a while to due her owners circumstances and have loved her since I first met her. She fits in well with with my brood, now consisting of 2 salt and pepper miniature schnauzers girls, 1 black miniature schnauzer girl and Alfie ( poor boy is very outnumbered)

Schnapps was my friends dog for 9 years but in the last few years her marriage has broken up, her elderly parents have become very unwell and her house is now being repossessed on top of a lot of other things and over the last year I have looked after Schnapps a lot to help out and let my friend get a break or go help her parents and a load of other things.
She is having to move into social housing and the will not accept pets and financially she is finding it very difficult to proved for Schnapps. I have offered to help out anyway I can to help her keep Schnapps but it is becoming increasingly difficult for her to manage.
She made the decision a few month ago that she was going to give Schnapps up and while I tried to help it didn't work out and she asked me if I would have her.
It wasn't an easy decision to make with having 3 dogs already but I couldn't see my wee Schnappy Lou go to live with anyone else so opened my door to her as she was already in my heart.

Took her to the vet for a general check over and some blood work as it has been a few years since schnappy last saw a vet. Blood work was fine but she needs to drop a few pounds which we are going to work on.

Its been an easy transition as I have looked after her so much and all the dogs get along well.

I am turning into a crazy dog lady.........

Oh dear...poor Alfie truly IS outnumbered! You'd better send him over to me right away! LOL What an awesome little face! I'm so glad you helped her... I'm sure your friend is relieved beyond belief to know you have her. I know that when I gave my puppy away to my best friend...it broke my heart but I knew it was for the best and it was so great to see my boy being loved and cared for in a way I just could not provide. (I just couldn't keep up with a young dog, having to work and living in a small apartment.) It made my loss seem so much better when I knew he was going to be so happy in his new home....I'm sure your friend feels the same!

          Lotsa hugs!

                Re: Introducing Schnapps......dog no 4!

Love Schnapps picture and so happy that shes fitted into your lives and hearts!

My best friend had three dogs and fostered a 4th. She had Twm for 3 months and then the call came that a home had been found for him. She turned up at mine in tears and in a state, saying she couldnt keep 4 dogs but couldnt let him go either. I said to her, "Look... two dogs is perfect, three dogs is madness, four dogs is just another dog" .....so Twm stayed and they all lived happily ever after! She frequently quotes this when explaining to people how she came to have 4 dogs!

She is now a failed fosterer but has a lovely pack who are my twos bestest friends. I would love another dog too...but could not guarentee its safety with my moody and viscious elderly diabetic cat Basil. He hates dogs... especially Pippa, and doesnt really like many people either.

                One day maybe.

So Allison, i dont think you are turning into a "crazy dog lady" , I think that probably happened at number 3 dog!!!!. Enjoy them all every day and what a wonderful friend you are to help your girlfriend at what sounds like a really low time for her.
Pippa; Westie, diagnosed 17th April 2012 at 6.5 years old, 8.7kgs, 6.8 units canninsulin bd, Burns high oats food . Lives with George 9 (Black lab), Polly 19 (cat) and Basil 15 (diabetic mog for 5+ years). Im Jen and we live in West Wales where it rains too much!
