Re: How long has your dog lived with diabetes so far (Jan 2018)

Itís been just an under a year for us. Lucy was diagnosed January 30, 2018. I feel like every time I get into a good groove something happens (a limp, ear infection, tooth removal and infection...

Re: Injection sites?

What do you do for ears? I just had an awful scary experience with meds for a yeast infection in Lucyís ears. Vet prescribed Entederm and she lost her hearing almost entirely. It started to come back...

Injection sites?

How much do you think injection site matters? What about angle of injection? My dog has had some really weird numbers lately and Iím wondering if I should try to change injection sites. She gets two...

Re: New Member Rudy

I use a Levemir pen but draw it with a syringe. It’s not ideal because it’s difficult to juggle the long pen, the syringe and tap out bubbles. But my Lucy gets a generous 3.5 units and the pen...

Re: Bad fastings for 2 weeks, why?

Iíve been seeing weird numbers lately too. No consistency in fastings OR how her body is reacting to insulin day to day. One day can be perfect and the next itís like she didnít even get her...

Re: PetSure Test Strips

Here are more of my test comparisons. I used code 36 for some of the petsure strips and then switched to code 20 on the petsure as noted. She just had a dental and is on antibiotics so sheís higher...

Re: PetSure Test Strips

Those are all really close!! Even that 1:35a reading isnít bad.
My Lucy is getting a dental today so Iím expecting she may be a bit high for a day or so since she didnít get insulin this morning....

Re: PetSure Test Strips

It’s no different than any other knockoff strip being made for a name brand meter. Alphatrak is the most commonly used pet meter and the zoetis strips are expensive. Of course there’s big money in...

Re: PetSure Test Strips

I think what code to use on the petsure strips is kind of in doubt. They say to use code 20, but one user got readings closer to the AT2 strips with code 36.
Iíll def test them against each other...

Re: PetSure Test Strips

Iím in a Facebook group for canine diabetes and some people have been testing the petsure strips against AT2 strips and posting their results. Some of them are seeing really close readings on low...

Re: PetSure Test Strips

Thatís really interesting! I have a OneTouch (with genultimate strips) and an AlphaTrak. I donít really trust the onetouch so I donít use it very much. Whenever I have tested it against the AT2 it...

Re: PetSure Test Strips

I’m also really curious about these! I go through about 120+ AT2 strips/month and could save a lot if these are as good/accurate.

Re: Any suggestions are greatly appreciated 😨

I use the Alphatrak. I bought a one touch that seems to read about 25-40 points lower than the Alphatrak when sheís under 250, but is all over the place on higher numbers. I still feel like Iím...

Re: Heat and Diabetes...

Could not agree more. It’s really important to help you learn patterns. I’ve also found that my dog’s BG drops at the vet/dr. Which I wouldn’t know unless I also tested regularly at home. I just feel...

Re: Heat and Diabetes...

My vet actually said the heat can make them run higher. Itís not uncommon to have to adjust doses with season changes, but youíd want to do testing before you make any changes. Iíve recently made...

Re: Chicken

I used to boil chicken breasts and shred it to add to Lucyís dry food to get her to eat it. Now I do ground turkey instead, but same idea. The smallest bit of meat in her dry food gets her to eat it...

Re: Novolin N vs Novolin 70/30

I agree with Jesse girl that you may want to try a separate injection of R starting at .5u if you donít mind doing 2 injections twice a day. My dog was on 70/30 and it was just too much of the short...

Re: Frustrated with food spikes

Iím amazed (and envious) that some of you can so tightly control your pupís BG so consistently day to day. Itís much better here since Iíve started giving her R with the Levemir, but I still see some...

Re: Lanomax-does it really work?

Iím really curious about this too. My Lucy has cataracts but theyíre not bad (yet) and havenít seemed to impact her vision. The VO said the cataract is a little thicker in one eye, but she canít...

Re: Frustrated with food spikes

So I decided to give up for now on trying to find a food that didn’t spike her so much and finally got up the nerve to use R. We’ve used it before when she was on NPH and it was in the 70/30 blend...

Re: Introducing Luna

Ugh I don’t have good advice for you here on the pancreatitis or aggression as it’s not something I’ve dealt with. They do make silicone anti-bite muzzles and I know some people have had to use them...

Re: Newly diabetic and insulin doesn't seem to be helping

Does he have a callus or small baldish spot on his elbow? Thatís what I use for a testing spot for my dog. It works really well for us.
