Re: Advocate PetTest meter

I bought this meter as a backup to the AlphaTrak about 6 months ago. Turns out I like it much better as the strips absorb the blood quicker and there is a 5 number countdown then the BG number...

Re: My Bichon just diagnosed with diabetes/pancreatitis (possible Cushings)

Thanks Amy,

From what you described, maybe Lacie just having food spikes isn't that bad since she always eats full meal, never gets sick, poo is good, and lately her lows are in mid 100s...this...

Re: My Bichon just diagnosed with diabetes/pancreatitis (possible Cushings)

Both the dry & wet, Amy?

If both, what is the ratio?

So, you find that no matter which protein you use the BG stays pretty stable?

How many calories do you feed?

THANKS!:)

Re: My Bichon just diagnosed with diabetes/pancreatitis (possible Cushings)

Thank you Amy. What Nutrisca food do you use? I'm assuming it keeps your babie's numbers fairly steady, right?

Re: My Bichon just diagnosed with diabetes/pancreatitis (possible Cushings)

Aimee,

The other day she was 182 before dinner then 2 1/2 hrs after meal she was 172. Went back up to 188 four hrs after meal. Then next morning fasting was 559! That really threw me. By 3:00 pm...

Re: My Bichon just diagnosed with diabetes/pancreatitis (possible Cushings)

Thank you Amy & JesseGirl,

I agree that there is no magic product for diabetes out there but, reading through their website, the takeaway I got was that it helped level out the bg and reduced food...

On the 7 1/2 units she is still getting a wide range of numbers. The first full day on it was very good. Started out in high end 300's...

Re: My Bichon just diagnosed with diabetes/pancreatitis (possible Cushings)

Thanks Amy & Mo.

So I tried something different today.

Yesterday her morning fasting was 166 so I gave her the 8 units of Novolin after her meal. By 9:00 am she was up to 400 and stayed high...

Re: My Bichon just diagnosed with diabetes/pancreatitis (possible Cushings)

JessieGirl & Natalie,

Thank you for your responses.

I'm experimenting again by lowering her insulin a bit, from 8 1/4 to 8. The last 3 mornings on 8 1/4 she had the low fastings but this...

Re: My Bichon just diagnosed with diabetes/pancreatitis (possible Cushings)

Since giving Lacie less kibble and more wet she is getting more numbers in the 200's especially at morning fastings. So, that's the good news. The bad news is that she still gets high food spikes a...

Re: My Bichon just diagnosed with diabetes/pancreatitis (possible Cushings)

Thanks everyone.

Unfortunately her numbers are way up today...500's! The bad thing is that I'm not sure if it was because of overcorrection, too little insulin, or if the whole dose of the 7 units...
