Re: Vetsulin vs. Novolin N vs. Novolin 70/30

It might be a good idea if you would tell us exactly what syringe you are currently using with your Vetsulin. Iím a worry-wart and believe itís important to use the correct syringe.

Re: Vetsulin vs. Novolin N vs. Novolin 70/30

Just a reminder that you would also want to switch syringes. Vetsulin uses U-40 syringes, while Novolin-N uses U-100 syringes. This is another advantage since U-100 syringes are the standard...

Re: Insulin

Letís not get hung up on a ďstartingĒ dosage that frequently is 0.2 units per pound. Itís only a STARTING dosage. Many pups will require MUCH more that the 0.2 units per pound. Test, evaluate...

Re: Annie & Craig - Getting too smart!

I still check-in and read posts from time to time😁. No plan to adopt another pup at this time, but I do stop and say ďhiĒ to the neighborhood pups when out for my walks.

Re: Do you give your dog probiotics?

I donít think probiotics can hurt, and may have important advantages. I gave Annie probiotics anytime she seemed to have diarrhea. There was one brand (sold for dogs) that, if I remember correctly,...

Re: Switching from Vetsulin to Humulin N

Welcome to the forum.
First, both Vetsulin and NPH insulins, like Humulin-N and Novolin-N, seem to do much better if given twice a day, 12 hours apart after meals.

How much does your pup weigh? ...

Re: needles/syringe Q?

You are only getting 6 days out of a full bottle of Vetsulin?

400 units per bottle of Vetsulin divided by 64 units per day = 6.25 days. As Raysaint asked, are you using U-40, or U-100...

Re: New member Ozzie

When he *bottomed out* on 8 units, was that also on Novolin-N? Was he on the same diet, and eating well, then? Just seeing if heís on the same insulin and diet as now....

Re: Glucose above 400 - Need advice

One other suggestion is to make the meals as repeatable as possible. I donít know if you are estimating the weight of the ingredients, or actually weighing them on a scale? I used a kitchen scale...

Re: Champ - just diagnosed and so worried!

Just a reminder that many think a starting insulin dosage is 0.2 units per pound. So, a 80 pound pup might be started at around 16 units. A few have required less, but I think most end up with a...

Re: Dog diagnosed 1/30... Need advice/help!

Are you giving any medications during the day? I recall some of Annieís eye drops caused a BG jump.

Re: Dog diagnosed 1/30... Need advice/help!

Canít be sure, but Iím thinking there could be two reasons for the BG increase at around the 9 hour point:

1). As the vet thinks, the insulin duration isnít long enough. Not sure if straight ďNĒ...
