Re: Annie - Getting too smart!

Craig have you had to increase Annie's insulin since using the Blue Wilderness Healthy Weight? Since most foods don't list carbs, I don't know how it compares to the Merrick that Grayson has been on...

Re: Annie - Getting too smart!

Grayson does have more trouble finding treats, but I had attributed it to failing eyesight from cataracts...if it's still in motion from being tossed, he can get it ok, but a stationary treat right...

Re: Annie - Getting too smart!

Grayson must have been reading up on all the pups trying the fussy eating ploys to get special treats and toppers! He had a little bout of tummy trouble about a month ago, and he's been fussy ever...

Re: Huffing and Coughing

So sorry to hear you lost Mia. Take comfort in knowing that she is no longer in pain or stressed out. You gave her total love and the best life you could give to make her happy. There is no doubt...

Re: freestyle lite testing strips for alpha trac 2

I use the Freestyle Lite strips with a code 5 on my Alphatrak2 ...did a few tests when first trying them, and that seemed to match up best for me. I'm all out of the AT strips now, so I've just kept...

Re: Introducing Sonny, A Diabetic Pug Rescue

There is now a Duffs in the plaza at Military Rd. and N.F.Blvd. in Niagara Falls. The one on Sheridan is the original (I think) and still going strong...

And Happy Birthday Sonny!

Re: Quincy, the doberman

BTW...welcome, and good for you on testing right away! If your Dobie has the usual elbow callous of a big dog, it's a great place for getting a blood sample to test...no hair to get in the way, and...

Re: Help with night time urination

If she is a good eater - always finishing her meal and not throwing up at all - it's often easiest to give the shot while they are actually eating. My boy is too into chowing down to be bothered...

Re: Diagnosed with Diabetes Thanksgiving Day

Grayson is lucky enough to have never had a flea, so we don't use anything for them (I figure that fewer chemicals is great if you can do it). As for Heartguard, he has been on that for several...

Re: Rusty's Journey

If Rusty is eating his meals reliably now, you might want to try giving the shot to him while he's actually eating. You could have it ready and wait until he's nearly done, then pop it in while he's...

Re: Mile the Chihuahua

Oddly, broccoli and cauliflower don't seem to bother Grayson - and he loves his broccoli. He likes green beans, but they aren't as interesting to him as before he got a taste of the others... :D He...

Re: Rusty's Journey

Rusty looks like a big enough boy to likely have calluses on his 'elbows'...if so, it's a great place to test. There is no need to trim hair, etc. and the further away from the face, the more...

Re: Anyone doing NSAID with a diabetic dog

We use Novox, which is a generic of Rimadyl. It's just as effective, but cheaper by far - especially if you use an online pharmacy. National Animal Hospital has the best price right now (the...

Re: Exercising your diabetic dog

A handy source of sugar to carry with you on walks, etc. is a little honey packet that you can get as dipping sauce when you order chicken nuggets (McDonalds is where I got mine). They are easy to...

Re: Grayson

Thanks Mo...he was 390 just before his recent shot and meal, and it'll likely go up a tad more before the insulin kicks in on his food rise. Since he's such a big boy and not tightly regulated yet,...

Re: Grayson

Do you think I should bump up a half unit or so to counter the BG increase from the Zymox? He's been on 26 units for a while now, and usually my spot checks are between 200-325. I've not seen lower...

Re: Grayson

I was starting a curve on Grayson - a way to track his progress for his first sugarversary - and not liking the numbers I was getting...shortly after the third test, I caught him grunting and...

Re: Hello from a diabetic mommy with a diabetic furbaby

We use frozen veggies for treats now (and the tiny 5 calorie Milkbones sparingly) and Grayson has taken to them just fine. His favorite seems to be broccoli, but he likes cauliflower, green beans...

Re: Grayson

Today is Grayson's 10th birthday! My baby boy is getting to be more of an old man I guess, but he's doing okay, so I won't complain. He's overdue on a curve so I'll likely get that done and report...

Re: Sadie Lynn

An easy way to see if you've missed at all on a shot is to smell for any insulin. It has a strong scent from even a drop, so once you know the smell, you'll be able to tell if any didn't make it...

Re: ACL

Years ago I had a Rottweiler that fell running up the stairs when he saw a meter reader walk past the front window. He tore his knee up and needed surgery for a new ligament (which they likened to...

Re: New my dog kayla been diagnosed 2 weeks

I'm sure we all have hit a blood vessel now and then...it's just that those of us with dark furred babies don't usually see the result! Try not to worry too much as they really don't notice a thing....

Re: Distraught with worry

I'm also a 'Lab Mom', so I can relate to the never ending quest for more food! If Grayson ever shows lack of interest in eating, I'll know for sure he's sick. That enthusiasm for every meal - his,...

Re: Shelby The Rottie just turned 7! 12.30.14

I had a Rott back in the 90's...a sweet marshmallow of a guy who just loved kids and cuddling! He lived to be 13 years 2 months and 2 days old, after having a knee ligament replacement and...
