Re: Just an FYI - kidney problems with Royal Canin

Keeping her in food and insulin is about all I can afford - I live entirely on my little social security check. So when the vet told me it would be more than $300 for just the tests, and then there...

Unhappy Just an FYI - kidney problems with Royal Canin

About a month ago I noticed that Rowlf's urine was foamy - and immediately knew she had kidney problems. She had been acting like she didn't feel very well for a few weeks but I thought it was...

Re: Royal Canin new formula

She ran a little high for the first couple of days, but seems to have settled down now. The new formula has higher protein, lower carbs, and less fiber than the old one.

This is a diabetic food...

Royal Canin new formula

Rowlf has been doing well on Royal Canin for a little over a year now, but the latest bag I bought looked and smell different. She willingly ate the "new" food but her feces also looked different so...

Re: Dog losing eyesight...what to expect

I don't know that all diabetic dogs go blind. My Rowlf was diagnosed over 3 years ago and so far has not shown any signs of losing her eyesight. - sheureka

Re: Opportunity to Upgrade: The NEW AlphaTRAK 2, and Info on Original Alpha Trak

Well I'm NOT an existing ADW customer and I DID NOT get a prescription, and they say my order has been shipped. So it sounds like they have no idea what they're doing. - sheureka

Re: Opportunity to Upgrade: The NEW AlphaTRAK 2, and Info on Original Alpha Trak

I called yesterday and left a message canceling my order - and just got a call back saying my order had been shipped out. No explanation as to what's going on. - sheureka

Re: Opportunity to Upgrade: The NEW AlphaTRAK 2, and Info on Original Alpha Trak

They won't sell a meter without a prescription. I've never heard of that before. My vet just retired and I'm not paying $90 for a first visit with the new vet just to get a prescription for a meter....

Re: Opportunity to Upgrade: The NEW AlphaTRAK 2, and Info on Original Alpha Trak

I didn't buy my original AlphaTRAK from AmericanDiabetesWholesale, so I wonder if there's any way I can upgrade without paying $152 (again!). Has anyone found another way? TIA - sheureka

Re: Need Help with Injections!

Maybe I missed it, but what syringes are you using? When Rowlf was first diagnosed the vet gave me 29 gauge syringes. Switching to the short Relion 31 gauge needles made a huge difference. And...

Re: New Diabetic Dog - Advice Please!

For after shot treats Rowlf gets 1/3 strip of chicken jerky and 1 Fruitable cranberry cookie. And you have a very, very cute dog.

Smile Re: Nipro TrueResult meter and TrueTest strips

I really am blessed. Rowlf has flat curves, great appetite, and has never had any of the complications so many dogs have with diabetes. She weighs exactly what she weighed before she was diagnosed 3...

Re: Nipro TrueResult meter and TrueTest strips

It comes with software so readings can be uploaded from the meter to the computer to automatically generate curves. That's very appealing to the geek in me. :D - sheureka

Nipro TrueResult meter and TrueTest strips

Has anyone ever used a Nipro TrueResult meter and TrueTest strips? I can get both the strips and meter free, and I'm wondering if anyone has experience with this system. TIA - sheureka

Re: Dr. Peterson on how long vials of NPH can be used

Barring drops (which are frequent with me) I generally get insulin and syringes at the same time - so on average I'm using a vial for about 7 weeks. So far I haven't had any problems doing that....

Re: Skippy and the Nova Max Plus

I think that has to be an error in the booklet. That would mean replacing the battery after every 2 curves! The battery usage should be about the same in all of the meter brands. - sheureka

Re: Dog Food Reviews

Rowlf is very, very well regulated on Royal Canin and no longer has the skin allergy problems she used to have with W/D. And she loves the kibbles! So I'm going to stick with what works for us. -...

Re: Newly Diagnosed Bichon Shih-Tzu Molly

My bichon is almost exactly the same size and started at 3.5 units. She's now at 4.25 units but it's been almost 3 years since she was diagnosed. So that sounds about right to me!
