Re: My best Pal, Coke

That's not a very big dose for a dog her size - I don't see a problem with raising the insulin dose.

Coke is sooooo beautiful! What a great looking dog. :)

Re: schnauzer having potty accidents

Oh my goodness! I'm so sorry that you went through that. And glad you listened to your own instincts.

With potentially numerous issues going on, regulation will be challenging. High...

Re: Toto

Hopefully it was just the treat - given at a low point in the insulin's activity, it could raise the blood sugar quite a bit.

Really lovely numbers! You're doing great with him!

Re: Newly diagnosed diabetic dog

That's a BIG jump in the dose. How much does he weigh?

For a Maltese... I'm really worried about 6 units twice a day - you're giving it twice a day, yes?

At a typical starting dose of...

Re: Dachsund Katie

It's always worth testing blood sugar at home - more information is better!

Dogs can have some insulin if they refuse to eat - usually 1/4 of the normal dose is safe if they eat nothing at all....

Re: Fango - we’re panicking!

It sounds like he's getting the right treatment and is responding well to it. He should feel much better once his blood sugar is down into the 300s. Presumably it was a lot higher for him to have...

Re: schnauzer having potty accidents

The specialist suggested euthanizing him??

What reason did they give for that suggestion? Did they believe he has Cushing's disease or failing kidneys or something to warrant such advice?

Re: Getting more and more concerned with high bs.

There are a handful of things to consider when there is a change in regulation - not that they are the only causes but are some common causes that can be verified and fixed:

- Is your bottle...

Re: POLL: Update us on the insulin you're using

This poll was done while Vetsulin was pulled from the market and most dogs switched to NPH.

How long has your dog lived with diabetes so far (Jan 2018)

Long overdue for a new poll to celebrate milestones in our dogs' life with diabetes.

Please respond even if your dog has passed on, as our Chris has, with the number of years they lived with...

Re: Poll: How long has your dog lived with diabetes so far?

This poll naturally skews toward new diagnoses because members whose dogs were diagnosed many years ago often aren't actively here at the forum to fill it out when it's updated while new members are...

Re: New Diagnosis. "Learning to Care for "Harley"

I'm guessing you mean 2018 so a brand new diabetic. Harley sounds absolutely adorable as all KCCSs are!

Just for our peace of mind, let us know how much Harley weighs, how much insulin he's...

Re: Suzie Is On 14th day Lantus Trial:Seeking Protocol

I don't think you need to test her every night. I would do 6am, 10am, 3pm, and 6pm for now every day. Record the results BUT don't change anything unless there is a major problem like extremely low...

Re: DVM CONCURS THAT NPH MAY BE A PROBLEM:Back to 2X/day diet

He seems like a good guy and did a good job of dealing with what Suzie is experiencing. As vet visits go for canine diabetics, I'd say this was a good one.

Re: Blood Glucose Spike-Ursodiol, Insulin or Disease?

Re: SUZIE in Hospital-Ketoacidosis and Septicemia

I'm going back through your thread. Dogs process these insulins different than humans and cats different from dogs. So the charts provided by the insulin manufacturers really only apply to humans.

Re: Suzie Is On 14th day Lantus Trial:Seeking Protocol

Yes! You can see that there is some consistency to the times of day when the blood sugar is highest and lowest and overall a fairly consistent "shape" to her curve on Lantus.
