Re: Out of control numbers

Well, Jasmine is in sad and in pain no more. She died yesterday while my son was home alone with her. :( While we're glad she is suffering no more, that was really hard on my 16-yr-old son who...

Re: Out of control numbers

She didn't actually check her spine (as far as I noticed anyway). I should ask her about that, but like I said, her hips are really bony...makes it seem like hip dysplaysia or arthritis. Were your...

Re: Out of control numbers

The vet did not think Jazzy's problems were heart related. She said her heart sounds good and there's a good femoral pulse. The fact that her hips are so bony and she can walk for a little while...

Re: Out of control numbers

Joan, thank you so much for your reply! I will definitely run that idea by the vet! You are the first person that has mentioned the significance of the temp diff between her front and back paws. I...

Re: Out of control numbers

Hopefully the vet can help with dosages for some meds/supplements. Sure is worth a try. It's so hard watching her like this. I think there has to be some circulation problem for sure with the...

Re: Out of control numbers

I agree. I don't think it's related to her diabetes either. Probably one of the many hind quarter mobility problems large breed dogs are susceptible to with age. I just want to make sure she's not in...

Re: We said goodbye to Poppy yesterday

So sorry for your loss! Your experience sounds like where we are with Jasmine right now. I can empathize...I fear we'll be in your shoes soon. Run, Poppy, Run!

Jasmine can't walk :'(

I cannot believe how quickly this has progressed. I never saw Jasmine have any trouble with walking until this past Thursday and that was just when she came in from outside. It's very cold here right...

Re: Out of control numbers

When we saw the eye vet, she said as long as the whites above Jasmine's pupil/iris were nice and white, she wasn't in any pain and didn't need any drops or anything. The last few days her right eye...

Re: Out of control numbers

It's yeast in her ears rather than an infection. Will that still make her numbers higher?

Re: Out of control numbers

I'm sure Jasmine will adapt to her loss of vision although life is not nearly as fun for her now.
The real struggle here is trying to get her glucose down! So far, I've increased from 17 to 19...

Re: Out of control numbers

Craig, how long has Annie been blind and how long did it take her to get used to moving around and seem comfortable and at ease?
It sure would be nice to give her back her vision. I miss our...

Re: Out of control numbers

I took Jasmine to the Eye clinic tonight. She said her cataracts are as bad as they're going to get; won't get any worse. She said if it's really bright or really dark she can't see anything. In...

Re: Out of control numbers

Thanks for the info, Cara. I did not know that, and apparently neither did my vet! I love this forum! Most Veterinarians don't seem all that well informed about diabetes which continues to surprise...

Re: Out of control numbers

She really hasn't gained any significant weight. She's about 5 lbs more now than she was in Feb. 2011 when she was diagnosed, but has been pretty steady for years now. Good thought though!
The other...

Re: Out of control numbers

Her insulin dose gradually increased in previous months. She used to be at 13u for quite a while. She began drinking more and having accidents and we settled on 17u for many many months. As I said,...

Out of control numbers

Wow, apparently it's been 3 1/2 years since I've been on here!! Time flies! Jasmine has seemingly been doing very well, but this spring began rapidly losing her vision. She can no longer enjoy her...

Re: Jasmine

Since I had already done her usual food/insulin at 5p.m., I just did the next one at 8a.m. in the morning before leaving for my son's basketball games. She was at 241 then. Then at 8:30 tonight I...

Re: Jasmine

So, I haven't been on here in QUITE a while! We've been coasting along doing OK. It's a lot easier in the winter when we're not outside so much and Jasmine is a lot less active.

Anyway....TOTAL...

Re: Harry the wonder dog - An Angel 12.05.11

I have not been on the board for quite a long time. I just felt the urge to check it today and the first thing I saw was the news of Harry's passing.

I'm SO sorry for your loss! You and Harry...
