Re: For those who give homemade food!

Ok so we tried to feed a recommended homemade diet, and her sugars are uncontrolled again, 500's down to 300's, I don't think this is going to work for us unfortunately :(

Thumbs up Re: For those who give homemade food!

That's amazing that he's doing so well as a diabetic for 10 years. THat's a huge testament to you as an owner! We hope to find a balance for daisy too. She's starting to have flare ups again on her...

Re: For those who give homemade food!

How much eggshells would they need, is there a formula? I know that the calcium/phosphorus balance is an important one

For those who give homemade food!

What do you feed? the ingredients, and also which vitamin/mineral do you add, and why? Thank you! We decided to home cook for our daisy because the dry food is just difficult to find the right one.

Re: Who took their dog to a specialist? Advice?

It went away again. She's been sleeping alright. I hate having to bring her to the vet for these vague symptoms. All they can suggest is to run another full panel of labs on her every time,...

Re: Who took their dog to a specialist? Advice?

Hi guys, me again!

Just wondering, does your dog ever get restless at night? Last few days Daisy has been restless, pacing, licking my sisters face nonstop, being clingy like she's in pain. What...

Re: Who took their dog to a specialist? Advice?

Another general question I had to everyone, what kind of insulin syringes do you guys use, and do you dispose them every time? We've been using the orange top 30 unit ones from walmart and disposing...

Re: Who took their dog to a specialist? Advice?

It's amazing that Jesse kept her sight for so long, wow! That seems to be pretty rare from what the vets say.

I'm also very surprised that my vet didn't tell me much about the diet either. It...

Re: Who took their dog to a specialist? Advice?

What was the reason your dog needed insulin every 6 hours? That is a lot of work, wow I applaud you really! I think not many people would be able to work around a schedule like that. We sometimes...

Re: Who took their dog to a specialist? Advice?

The reason why I feel like I have to regulate most of this is because Daisy was initially my dog. I got her as a puppy back in college, but she has since become a family dog and always lived in our...

Re: Who took their dog to a specialist? Advice?

Yea the timing isn't ideal that's for sure, I cried a lot during daisy's hospitalization and after when I thought we would lose her. All those stress hormones definitely weren't great, but what can...

Re: Who took their dog to a specialist? Advice?

I agree with you that vets want the pets to be brought in for money. But things like checking dogs sugar can be invasive, and not something that many people are comfortable with. Also a lot depends...

Re: Who took their dog to a specialist? Advice?

This is what Daisy was on before we found out she's diabetic. We took her off of it because of the simple carb content, potatoes etc. You think she can eat this? Even though there's things like rice...

Re: Who took their dog to a specialist? Advice?

It would be great to be able to have the time and ability to regulate diabetes as closely as you guys do, you're really all champs! I wish I could, but unfortunately Daisy doesn't live with me. She...

Re: Who took their dog to a specialist? Advice?

Did any of your pets suffer with uti's or skin infections? Daisy gets yeast infections around her urethra because she has folds there that collect moisture and turn into infections. Have you found...

Re: Who took their dog to a specialist? Advice?

Her last curve 12/23/19 at 6 units was: 386 (fasting 6am), 458, 178, 198, 221, 320, 445. That's from 0600 to 6pm every 2h. And then I checked again at 11pm just to see what the peak was, and it was...

Re: Who took their dog to a specialist? Advice?

Do what exactly? The curves? I felt like the specialist gave me very little info on diabetes in general. All she said is to just lower her to 5 units and recheck curve in 3-4 weeks before bringing...

Re: Who took their dog to a specialist? Advice?

Came back from the specialist apt today. They did an adrenal scan for free for me because their sister hospital seems to have missed it when Daisy was hospitalized. That was nice of them. And the...

Re: Who took their dog to a specialist? Advice?

So did you constantly take her in for bloodwork to manage the cushings? How were you keeping her on irregular doses? and what made her sugar go so low?
Daisy has been on 5mg/day vetoryl for a few...

Re: Who took their dog to a specialist? Advice?

$700?! wow that's a lot, is that with all the blood workup? I will try to avoid any extra labs, i'm there purely for advice. They always upsell labs, but daisy had them done recently so I don't see...

Re: Who took their dog to a specialist? Advice?

My main reason for taking her to a specialist is to help understand how to regulate diabetes with the cushings. My vet suggested to take her to a specialist because the cushing's vetoryl dose isn't...
