Re: Former Foster Dog Phee

Just popping in for an update on Phee. Things are going fantastic! :)

The EPI diagnosis and treatment has made all the difference in getting Phee's glucose under control. His digestion is so...

Re: Former Foster Dog Phee

Had a vet visit on Monday to get Phee's B12 checked. It came back over 1,000, which is wonderful and means we can stick with oral supplementation and not have to give him B12 shots. He gets enough...

Re: Former Foster Dog Phee

Just popping in for an update. Phee had a UTI, so he's finishing up antibiotics for that. His numbers were creeping higher and higher, so I knew something was going on... They've been MUCH better...

Re: Former Foster Dog Phee

I'm not going to do anything with food for a while. I am going to wait until he actually gets to the edge of overweight. He may not continue to gain. This may actually be the right amount for him...

Re: Former Foster Dog Phee

I've been overfeeding him as long as I've had him just to maintain his weight. So now that he's getting the enzymes, the overfeeding is making him gain fast! It's amazing how a 1/4 teaspoon of...

Re: Former Foster Dog Phee

Today is day 3 on the current dosage and things are starting to look better. Not great, but better.. I think I may actually have to reduce his food from 2/3 cup to 1/2 cup. He's put on almost a...

Re: Former Foster Dog Phee

Phee has his own card table in the dining room dedicated to making his meals and for his meds. LOL!

He has always seemed to need an extra 1/2 unit of N at night to keep those morning numbers...

Re: Former Foster Dog Phee

That's true!!! :) So it's not a mistake, it was a learning experience. ;)

After I posted, I went and put 3 days worth of meals into individual zip lock bags. That way I won't forget...

Re: Former Foster Dog Phee

At least yesterday was a good day! We're back to super high numbers today - 401 at fasting and 560 an hour after eating. Now I'm wondering if the higher numbers today are because he rebounded...

Re: Former Foster Dog Phee

I was giving him Pepcid for the reflux, but I really don't want to do that long-term. The flax meal seems to be helping. He hasn't had any regurgitation today at all. *knock on wood*

Re: Former Foster Dog Phee

Oh and the enzymes are working amazingly well. He is eating Nature's Variety Instinct Salmon kibble. He's already put on a few ounces. His poops are perfect and he's down to a normal size poop...

Re: Former Foster Dog Phee

Thanks everyone! :)

This morning I decided to lower his N and up his R. I went with 1 unit of N and 2-1/2 units of R, which is almost the opposite of what I was doing before the enzymes. His...

Re: Former Foster Dog Phee

Feeling pretty bummed out right now. Since starting Phee on the enzymes, his sugar has become a nightmare. Because the enzymes breakdown his food, not only does his glucose shoot up 300-400 points...

Re: Former Foster Dog Phee

Just got of the phone with the vet. Phee does indeed have EPI. His TLI was 1.3 (normal is 2.5) and his B12 was low. We have to start him on digestive enzymes. At least we finally have some tangible...

Re: Former Foster Dog Phee

I was thinking maybe neuropathy of some sort. He has had long periods of no trouble at all though. We're not sure exactly how old he is, but he's definitely young... probably between 4-6.

Re: Former Foster Dog Phee

No urinating. His pee has been totally normal. The poop is not only at night. It's anytime he's asleep or very relaxed. Sometimes he'll be laying on the couch and just have poop fall out. He...

Re: Former Foster Dog Phee

Just an update on Phee... We switched back to Nature's Variety Instinct salmon kibble. Saw an immediate drop in his insulin needs. He's currently on 2.5 units of N + 0.5 units R in the morning and...

Re: Former Foster Dog Phee

Yes, vet said amylase is actually usually normal in EPI dogs and she would have to do that TLi test to confirm. She said she's happy to do that if I want.

We've been doing 3-1/2 units and now...

Re: Former Foster Dog Phee

6 months ago he was on a salmon kibble. I think that may have been why his triglycerides were so good. I ordered some salmon oil this afternoon and am going to see if that helps get his...

Re: Former Foster Dog Phee

They're 200 points higher than they were 6 months ago though. I'm thinking that might account for his need for more insulin..? Or would it be the other way around - that poor glucose control caused...

SO, the vet just emailed me the bloodwork (a different vet called me yesterday and didn't give me details, just said all was normal). I'm looking at the bloodwork and am not very happy. My vet said...

Re: Former Foster Dog Phee

Saw the vet today and got his bloodwork done. Results will be in tomorrow. His physical exam was great. His sugar on 3 units has been in the 400's and 500's. We're going to go up to 3-1/2 units. ...
