I always wondered if these long acting insulin's would work with jesses one meal a day and would only need one shot with her one meal . I experimented with NPH and she could hold control up to 16...

Most give insulin after meal . Some wait 15 minutes to see if food will stay down . i give my jesse her shot while she is eating

You might want to think twice about giving a shot before meal because if your dog does not want to eat you cant take that dose of insulin back .

my jesse could after food and insulin become lethargic if her blood sugar is spiking or dropping but just giving her the shot has no affect . NPH insulin onset for jesse is about 1.5 hours .

Did your vet test for pancreatitis ? It can be a complication and a cause of diabetes in dogs and can be life threatening . I would recommend a vet visit definitely test for pancreatitis

Its very common to see higher numbers with infection . My jesse can get ear problems and when that happens her numbers go up until it clears . So basically you cant regulate a dog with an infection ....

I think it depends on the dog . Jesse can handle small adjustments maybe a quarter to a half unit . you should do a curve before making a dose adjustment you may want to do 2 curves over a couple...

Sometimes a big change in the numbers could mean there is a medical condition has come about like an infection and higher blood sugar can point to that

Look for anything that may have changed ....

It looks like resistance is broken and you are seeing some good numbers but like i sugested on the other post you are having some substantial drops and may need to edge the dose lower

Craigs Annie used 70/30 but ended up over time using nph and r insulin separately because the 30 percent of r was to much and was able to control blood sugar better this way

I have used NPH on...
