Re: Cyclosporine-anyone use it?

RMD, I'm one of the moderators over at k9cushings.com, & kind of an honorary member here. One of the Cushing's forum admins referred me to your question about compounded cyclosporin eye drops. Both...

Re: Barney - 8yo Jack Russell Terrier

Kelley, melatonin will suppress the production of cortisol to a certain extent, just not as much as lysodren or trilostane. So if Barney is indeed normal, then I can understand the reluctance to...

Re: Hello, I am new here, Kallie just diagnosed

Tammy, you only want to give pred, if Kallie has one or more of the following symptoms, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, or extreme lethargy. If you give pred, you must wait at least 24 hours after the...

Re: Coolidge...

In theory, with a post of 8.8, on dose of lyso should not have caused an Addisonian crisis. I still think the real problem is that Coolidge never had PDH to begin with, & that's why there have been...

Re: Been there, Done that- Part II

Harley ate about 60-70% of his supper which is more than he has eaten at any one meal in the past 3-4 days. We are in the clear for now, so we'll see how long it lasts.

Susy, I believe you are 100% correct about the purpose of the lignans.

Re: Coolidge...

Yes, Harley is another Atypical + Pit Cushing's. I'm in total agreement with Susy that I, too, think that the problem for Coolidge from the beginning was Atypical, not Pit Cushing's, thus the bad...

Re: Been there, Done that- Part II

Oops, forgot about that, & yes, they are, but both dogs have been eating them without a problem for about 6 weeks. So I think if there was going to be a problem, something would have shown up by...

He's fine. Drinking, no vomiting, diarrhea, etc., just being a snot to drive me nuts. I just got back from my errands which included the Whole Foods trip. There are some dried chicken breast...

Re: Been there, Done that- Part II

Well, the hard earned weight gain may not hold up for long. It's hunger-strike central at my house for pretty much the last 4 days. The only thing I've gotten Harley to eat is his Evo kibble mixed...

Re: Coolidge...

Lyso normally peaks about 48 hours after the dose is given. Frankly, I don't think there's any way that Coolidge would even still have a trace amount of lysodren iin her system after this extended...

Re: Barney - 8yo Jack Russell Terrier

Kelley, none of us are vets, but Barney's UTK panel clearly indicates that he is both Pit Cushing's + Atypical. As I mentioned when I first posted to you, the IMS who diagnosed Harley told me she did...

Re: Barney - 8yo Jack Russell Terrier

Kelley, I'm certainly glad you mentioned the ACE inhibitor as you are absolutely correct that Trilo is contraindicated with this type of BP med. I would certainly think another abdominal US is...

Re: Barney - 8yo Jack Russell Terrier

The recommendation sheet isn't in any specific order. There should have been a comment that was something to the effect that say treatments #2, 3, 4 are recommended.l

Re: Barney - 8yo Jack Russell Terrier

Kelley, I'm the Debbie that Allison mentioned. Barney is, indeed, Pit Cushing's + Atypical which is what my Harley is. Some of Barney's values are higher than Harley's were, while Harley was higher...

Re: Coolidge...

Could you post exactly what items 2,3,5 are? Yes, the elevations are mild compared to some that I've seen. The standard treatment of melatonin + lignans is pretty mild, so it might be the best...

Re: Harley's visit to the Univ. of Penn.

Lori, Dr. O isn't saying that Harley has Pit Cushing's, too. What he is saying is that the source of the Atypical is coming from a lesion in the Pit gland which is causing the adrenals to pump out...

Re: What's better lysodren or trilostane

Teresa, there are a few labs who do report in different units in the US compared to the most common units used, that's why we always ask for the reporting units for any labwork that you post. To...

Re: Coolidge...

Excess production of the associated hormones, usually estradiol, progesterone, & 17-OH can cause the same sorts of liver damage that the excess cortisol will do. I almost sure that skin & coat...

The following link will give the information about the full adrenal panel. You want to look at the one that is $135. Your vet can ship directly to UTK which is what you want. Do not let them ship...

Re: Coolidge...

A couple of things. FSO & melatonin are usually used together. I can think of no one in this group who has an Atypical pup that is not using both of them, & that includes my Harley. This is per...

I just buy it at Target or wherever, making sure that I don't get the extended release version.

Teresa, you absolutely do not want to do any further diagnostic testing until Pep is over his ear infection & off antibiotics for probably 7-10 days. Any active infection is likely to increase the...
