    We reduced Lily's thyroxine dose, for hypothyroidism, a week ago, so I've been paying more attention to her BG levels and so far so good. For example, her BG was 252 at fasting tonight. I'll probably do a curve next week to see if her insulin needs to be adjusted.

    She likes to watch me mow the grass. You never know if I might stir up a squirrel, chipmunk or bunny

      Jesse-26 lbs - 16.5 years old ,11 years diabetic, one meal a day homemade and a vitabone snack . 3 shots of Novolin( under the Relion name ) a day . Total insulin for a 24 hour period is 6.5 units of NPH insulin .

        After reducing her thyroxine from .6mg to .3mg, Lily has settled in with an increase of 1 unit R and 1 unit N.

        She now gets a mix of 4 units Novolin R and 14 units Novolin N.

          she does follow that change in insulin with change in thyroid medication

            I was just reading about Cowboy. I'm so sorry. He was beautiful, just like your Lily.

            Mel: My monster is Vinny! He's a black lab, diagnosed with diabetes June 21, 2013. His birthdate was celebrated the last weekend of May. He left this world on July 27, 2018, he was 12 years old.

                Happy Birthday to my girl Lily! She is 10 years old today and doing well entering her 5th year with diabetes.

                  Daisy 12 1/2 y/o 20lb Mini Schnauzer - 115g chicken breast, 45g chana dal, 55g green beans all chopped in a food processor, 20g Hills Perfect Weight, 1 tbs pumpkin, 8 units Novolin N q12h. Other meds-1/4t d-mannose twice daily, 1 Proviable DC daily, 1 multivitamin, 1/4t ground eggshells each meal, 1200mcg methyl B12 daily, 5mg zyrtec daily

                              Mike, her birthday and anniversary gives us all hope and encouragement.

                              Knowing they can carry on with life for many years makes me want to work even harder on regulating my dog (which is still frustrating me.)
                              Riley, 8 yr. old maltipoo, 25 lbs., diagnosed Feb 2017, taking thyroid meds, had pancreatitis and DKA mid March, eating Wellness Senior formula can food. NPH dosage now at 9.0 units Humulin N. Adding either pumpkin, spinach, blueberries, yams, or green beans to his food. Also omega-3 oil.

                                Yes. It can be frustrating at times. For example... on Lily's birthday, I did a curve in preparation for a visit to the vet and she started out with a 374 at fasting I tested her again and got another 374 She's normally in the low 200s before breakfast.

                                She ate her breakfast, drank lots of water and I gave her a normal insulin dose. The rest of the day her numbers were great... go figure
