    Anne-Marie,
I am sure praying his ulcer heals completely this time. Glad the vet took the stitches out to be sure there wasn't an infection but I know the healing still needs to happen!

Hi Anne Marie, Glad to hear hes playing with snoopy and swimming! Must be lovely in the warm weather. Hoping the vets are pleased with his eye and its healing finally. Poor CJ must of had enough of it by now, and he wants to enjoy the summer. So great to hear he is feeling better in himself! Long may it continue.

        THanks Patty and Jen

Yes he is feeling a lot better and the eye is looking better too. The ulcer is not gone but it has reduced in size we will have to wait and see but he is chasing around again like a lunatic which is great !! He is acting up a bit with the food - its not because he is feeling sick - he devours chicken - but he seems to be bored of the tinned diabetic food Any ideas on what to feed him on next?

Yes Jen its lovely to have the summer - today was shorts and t shirts weather - it was about 22 degrees. It gets very hot here in Jan / Feb /March - often 30 - 40 degress - I hate it when its that hot so does CJ!

        Hugs

          Anne-Marie,

So glad that CJ is doing much better. I feel for our pups who have to eat diabetic food.... it must taste like cardboard.

Not sure what your options are where you live. Abby use to be a picky eater, actually way before diabetes. She only like 'junk' food... and was a treat a holic. No wonder she ended up on this side of diabetes. Everything I would try that was 'good' food, she would refuse.

Now, it is a different story, but I ended up feeding her a dehydrated food. But truthfully some dogs like it and others do not. Sorry I can't be more of a help.

Perhaps a topping of chicken over or mixed with the diabetic food?

So glad he is feeling better! Jenny started to get bored with her food so I mix half an ounce if Blue Buffalo grain free stuff in and that has been doing the trick. She doesn't have a delicate tmu tho

              Thanks Barb and Judi

Yes it's great to see him feeling better. Re the food I do give him chicken on top of the diabetic food!! He picks the chicken out and then walks off the little pirate!! So now I hand feed him I put a tiny piece of chicken on top of a big piece of wet food (ugh) and then he eats it. It's really only in the morning he does not want to eat its too early for him 6am but it means I can feed at 6pm which is better.

Judi I can't get blue buffalo here but cj does like dry nuts which he gets as his 2 nd meal in the morning approx 2 hrs after first meal. But he won't eat those at 6am either!! I think I will try another brand of diabetic tinned food and see what happens.

He was never like this before diabetes - he is giving me even more grey hairs - he used to be like a Hoover !

Ok...I gotta ask....what the heck are these dry nuts everyone keeps talking about? Is it like biscuits and cookies? We call it one thing and you folks call it another? Trunk and boot. Loo and bathroom. LOL

Am SO glad the little pirate is being a booger! Means he's feeling better! My westie, Henry, does the same thing with his food...eats the chicken his mom puts on and then walks away! (best friend adopted him so I still get access!) I think a lot of dogs just aren't morning eaters. I know Hank is doing so much better now that I don't force him to eat. Still ...(look over at uneaten food)...he has his days!

Lots of belly rubs to Cj and hugs to you!

                  Shellie

The dry nuts are sometimes called kibble but basically they are just dry pellets . Hope you can understand that !!

Just a short update on CJ . His eye is much better but his bg has been high over the last 2 days and he is drinking lots of water and has lost weight again
I brought him to the vet today and yes he is happy that the eye is much better but the high bg is not so good and weight loss he is now 8.4kg.

Cj has also decided he does not want to eat the tinned diabetic food in the morning is I have been giving him the dry food ( 2 feeds in morning) . I have been doing this now for over a week and it's only from yesterday that his fasting was 18.8 morning.

                  Monday

                  6am 18.8
                  8am 17.8
                  9am 10.0
                  12.40 17.7
                  6pm 18.2
                  9.30 pm 13.1

                  Tues
                  6am 18.7
                  9am 11.6
                  1pm 16.8
                  6pm 16.3

He gets his food and insulin at 6am and pm and his 2nd feed in the am at 8am the I walk him hence the low bg at 9am after walk. I also walk him pm at approx 4.30 pm
He is usually between 10 and 13 at morning fastings.

The vet said it could be because we took him off the Previcox on Sunday but that we should wait until thurs to see if nos are still high then I should give him the Previcox again.

It's the weight that is worrying me he is very skinny now. But he is in good form. Just when I thought he was on the mend and his numbers were good he has gone backwards again. I am going to email Marlies the specialist vet to see what she thinks. If anybody has any ideas please I would be so grateful.

the range isnt to bad from low to high maybe a tad higher but not unusual for many dogs

i like to keep my jesse about 5.5 difference from low to high but its not unusual for that to be a bit higher

you may have to slow down that early drop that was jesse biggest problem and until we worked on controlling that she bounced quite a bit much more than cj

if you can slow down the drop all the numbers maybe flatter probably higher which will give the opportunity to raise the dose

the numbers look pretty good for all the challenges cj has had and a bit of time might work it out

So very pleased to hear that eye ulcer looking better...not just better, but MUCH better!!!! Hurrah.

CJ is such a monkey with his food, No , I dont like that for breakfast anymore...find me something else mum or I'll not eat and make you feel all stressy about it! Hes been taking lessons of Hank on pickiness. Naughty boy.

I think Jesse may be onto something about stopping that early drop. Does CJ get a pre walk bicci or honey in the morning? Pippa gets a big drop like when i walk her earlier than normal at weekends. She then bounces about and i find it hard to keep her sugar steady when she has dropped too early. Looks like CJ is steady later on in the day which is great. Might be worth doing nothing yet as hes only be higher in the mornings for a couple of days and is in good form otherwise.

I have definately got more relaxed about waitful watching these days. Weird things do happen, but sometime they just settle on their own too.

Hes one special ( complicated/ contrary) little guy.

Thanks Jesse girl, Patty and Jen

Yes I will wait a few days and see what happens but even today he is higher -19.0 at 12.15pm brought him out for another walk.

I agree with you Jesse girl and Jen - he does sometimes go too low after a walk even with a bicci before it ! Will test him and see exactly when he starts to drop- its normally about 21/2 to 3 hrs after food and insulin.

I am waiting to see what Marlies says as well. I need to make sure I am giving him enough food now that he is back on the dry nuts again ( could be reason for higher nos). He used to eat about 140g per day of these before he was a diabetic - so am sticking to this amount but sometimes he wont eat 70g in the morning .

I am just worried because of the weight loss but this is due to the high nos and drinking lots of water again. Its a vicious circle wish I could wave a magic wand and make him better - even good numbers would be fab!
