    Re: Internet Archives

Here is what I did -- I just tried it with a few pages but I think it will work for all.

First, I did a google search with some of the words that were in the title of the most recent posts of Winnie's thread (Winnie, Keeshond, Trilostane, has passed). That got me to one of the latest pages and in the cached version I could see how many pages there were. Then, I did a search with the words consistent in all the titles of all of Winnie thread (Winnie, Keeshond & Lysodren) and "Page 1." This got me the first page. So, after that, it is just repeating the seach with the page number changed until I get all the pages. I think this should work for about anyone.

Let me know if it helps.

      Re: Internet Archives

Thanks to everybody's tips, I've been able to google some of my own threads that are most important to me on cc.net, such as my memorial tribute to my Barkis. (You would have thought that I would have been smart enough to have just saved a copy for myself when I wrote it, since this was the SECOND tribute I wrote after having lost the first one to the ezboard hack...).

But none of my threads have cached versions listed, so all that happens is that I am directed to the current bogus cc.net homepage. As you all know only too well, I am totally computer-stupid. Can anyone tell me why none of my old threads would have a cached version??

        Re: Internet Archives

Marianne, I've had the same experience with both my thread and others I've looked at. It seems the caching has been patchy. You could try the Yahoo search engine though - they seem to have a bit more cached than Google and certainly have different pages cached.

Yahoo does have more cached and here is a thread I found for you a bit ago and have been saving it http://74.125.47.132/search?q=cache:...&ct=clnk&gl=us - hope this link works, if not I have it safe and sound.

I must have about a hundred backed up caches, primarily in loving memory section. I have been stopped a couple of times with this message from Google. I have had to clear my cookies and it was fine.

                  “Sue,

Are you talking about those gray color text pages?? I started saving those too, only to discover they were duplicates of the actual forum pages from cc.net. If not, good deal. I'll have to go check out the link Cushy posted.”

To Louise, in answer to your above PM question - so that all can maybe try this in their own searches.

I clicked on this first one, actually, that cushy posted:

                  http://www.google.ca/search?q=site:w...n&start=0&sa=N

A long list of Google hits comes up, most of them links to individual pages in "Zoe’s story" But when I clicked on the third one that said [ARCHIVES], I was taken to a page that contained multiple pages of the original Zoe thread. The ‘hit’ I clicked on looked like this - note the word [Archive] and page 7 - which is different than all the other ‘hits’.

Zoe's story (treatment with trilostane) [Archive] - Page 7 ...
Zoe's story (treatment with trilostane) Questions and Discussions.
                  http://www.caninecushings.net/forums...-1526-p-7.html - 287k - Cached - Similar pages

(Also, you must click on cached in these links.) Well, it turns out this was page 7 of 8 total for Zoe’s thread (which at cc.net was nearing 190 pages.) But if I try to access those other pages directly from this link, it’s back to search portal hell!!
So I think if I copy the url for this ARCHIVE result and substitute the other page numbers in place of the 7, then maybe I can get the whole thread (or a good chunk of it) much more quickly. This page format is not gray that I can see, but it was originally in a centered format when I first found it. (Now it’s to the left, but it still does not look like the regular cc.net pages.) Note its size is 287k which is much larger than the individual page results. Sue

PS -- Here, you must click on cushy's link (the first one above) to get to the archive link I'm talking about. If you try to click on the archive link (the 2nd one) that I copied and posted above, you will only get the infamous 'search portal' again.

Sue! You are brilliant! I found the archived version of Zoe's thread, all of it!!!

I just tried this "method" with a few other threads I've been looking for and as has already been pointed out, caching is random, so it doesn't always work ...

But I think you have all of Zoe's thread there now in the archived version ... amazing!

                      Re: Internet Archives

Cushy - THAANKS for doing the actual work for me. Just one more pointer. I went to page 1 and tried doing "save as" and it didn't go too well. So instead, I went back to each Google archive page and clicked on "File" menu, then "Send," then "page by e-mail" and sent the dang things to myself. They all went quickly and came thru without a hitch.

The last post on Zoe's page 8 is early March. I know there were some later posts, so I'm guessing those haven't been "archived" yet, but probably will be at some point in time. Anyway, it IS most of Zoe's thread. YEAAAAA!!! I hope the rest of you can find your threads the same way. I found somebody else's (forgot whose) this way and it was short enough to be contained all in one archived page. Thanks again, Cushy!!!! Sue/Zoe

Hi - check out the Google advanced search instructions from "Wylie's Mom" on this thread. Susy is spot on - I was able to find Angel's thread in seconds! I haven't tried to save anything yet, but at least she is there!

Angel is going for a 5 mo ACTH in a few minutes; her last one was the unreadable results in Nov (too low to read). I will post a quick thread for her now.

LESLIE - OMG!!! What a way to go to the vet today - I am laughing so hard I am crying! Take care - Joyce, Pebbles & Angel

                          Re: Internet Archives

I've been working through MSN searches and have been able to find the following:

                          Abandoned puppy:
                          Pg 6
                          http://cc.msnscache.com/cache.aspx?q...2039a,1d3b0fb3

                          Lulu and Glynda
                          Pg 70
                          http://cc.msnscache.com/cache.aspx?q...036d9b,253de8b

                          pg 71
                          http://cc.msnscache.com/cache.aspx?q...71778,f1f8c8a0

                          Squirt-PDH and Atypical
                          Pg 1
                          http://74.125.47.132/search?q=cache:...&ct=clnk&gl=us

                          Palmer
                          Pg 13
                          http://cc.msnscache.com/cache.aspx?q...50811,64e9b003

                          Rusty
                          Pg
                          http://cc.msnscache.com/cache.aspx?q...cc1ed,b5488757.

                          In Loving Memory
                          Pg 4 (Arnie)
                          http://cc.msnscache.com/cache.aspx?q...0b500,17814e04

                          Pg 1 (Lucy)
                          http://cc.msnscache.com/cache.aspx?q...3b225,40d7af62

MSN's advanced search isn't as detailed as Google's but it does help at times.

                            Google tip:

                            Site Search

The word "site" followed by a colon enables you to restrict your search to a specific site. To do this, use the site:sampledomain.com syntax in the Google search box. For example, to find admission information on Stanford's site, enter:
                            admission site:www.stanford.edu
                            then hit "enter" button.

and that nothing is ever lost or forgotten." Anne, a Corgi mom
