Sande,
Just catching up on your thread as well. I really, truly understand what you may be going through. I know that when I lose my Abby, I will be right where you are. On a more uplifting note....enjoy you new found freedom, do not feel guilty(easier said than done). Bagel had a wonder life with you, and vice a versa. Barb

Sande,
I was traveling when you posted this so wanted to catch up. It is nice to enjoy those brief dog interactions from friends I find. But I'm not ready either. Glad your cat is there right now. I found that guilt was a part of my grieving early on. I felt guilty that I was out when I should be home for shot time. Or not in a hurry to run errands because Ali was waiting for me. Didn't seem fair that she struggled and was gone while I was now able to do so much outside of our diabetes routine. I think that's a normal process and the healing takes time. Those special places, like the beach, are hard and yet inviting. Because its like having a special piece of her there with you. Even now, when we drive home across MO, I remember the place I met my dad and passed Ali off to him. (My folks cared for her while we moved for a few weeks in 2008.) Tim says to me, "You see Ali everywhere." It's true, she was always with me so there are memories everywhere. Quote:

WOW you guys sure know what to say.....
Tara and Barb, thank you so much! Patty, EXACTLY... I teach two grade levels..and am retiring next week...so i am being taken out for dinners etc...Thursday I left a teacher's home at 6 PM ..(5 was shot time) and I was headed home before having to turn around and leave again for church... It hit me that I had no reason to go home first....Gracie cat is fine alone...She proved that when I tried so hard to adopt the other cat this summer... I just seem to have so much time on my hands..... I don't know if I told you all about her secret resting place...I made a garden around it of white rocks and I planted a beautyberry bush there. Right now it is a brown stick bush..and I hung all of her tags on it...She had a bunch....and they sparkle in the sunlight...I clear leaves off and I whisper to her how much I miss her...when spring comes the leaves will come out but the tags will be there forever... I remember for years reading here when others were going through this..and I knew one day it would be my time...but DON'T DWELL ON THAT...We had SO MANY WONDERFUL days, weeks, YEARS after we came here....So HUG your babies especially tight and enjoy !! I am so thankful and was so grateful to put everything in my life on hold for her, because I could, and she blessed me for it!!! sande |

Oh I love the tags on the tree Sande. It makes me want to create something beautifully spiritual with all my beloved dog's tags.
Don't feel guilty, the same way you have been delivered from the demands of this terribly demanding disease, so has Bagel's spirit been freed from her aging, sick body. Live like a dog. Enjoying the moments of freedom when you can, and letting the saddness wash over you when it comes. Tara

Oh, Sande. I've been deep in some issues with Izzy and have not been checking this side of the forum. I'm so sorry to hear of your loss, but happy to know of all the good times you had with Bagel.
It does take time; we lost Ruffles more than two years ago and although both of us have gotten rescue Yorkies since, neither of them takes her place. We love each of them differently. Take good care of yourself, just like you cared for Bagel. She would want you to be good to yourself! {{{hugs}}} Mary

Well just coming by to say hello.... since I lost my sweet Bagel in January it took a long time for the healing to start and even then it wasn't moving very well... I would glance at a beagle rescue site from a couple of hours away...even got approved which took serious applications and even a home visit..I have had beagles since I was three..anyway..ACCIDENTALLY saw this beautiful puppy whose Mom was rescued..They had to take her away from Mom at 5 months so Mom could begin heartworm treatment..
I curiously asked about the little waif...and the rest is HISTORY... Sadie, a lemon beagle is 12 weeks old and I have had her for four...She can never replace..but she sure can refill....She is a fuuny girl and i have a zillion pics if i could even remember how to post them! |
