I am wondering what to do tomorrow morning if she doesn't want to eat- about giving her insulin shot?

and if she doesn't eat. do I give her ANY insulin???

The advice usually given here is to give 1/4 of the normal insulin dose if the dog isn't eating. Check her BG first though!

It is just possible that her cortisol has gone very low and if this is the case then she will be exquisitely sensitive to insulin - even if she has eaten, thus the need to check the BG.

Did she end up having her Lysodren today/keeping it down, or not?

I presume you are headed off to the vet first thing tomorrow.

She has thrown up again twice and there cannot be anything left in her.

She had the 250 MG Lysodren at dinner too..

of course tomorrow is Sunday so the vet is closed....

She is sleeping now....

If she does't eat tomorrow ??? insulin anyway??? 1/4???? emergency vet??

Sounds like she couldn't have kept the Lysodren down. Which is a good thing if she isn't well.

Just on the off chance that she has low cortisol (I really doubt it is that but it is possible) checking her BG frequently to make sure it isn't going too low would be a good idea. Low cortisol = low BG, even in a non diabetic.

Definitely needs to see the vet in the morning, I think.

If her BG goes low (either because of the insulin she's had or because of low cortisol) and she won't/can't eat you will probably have to keep smearing syrup on her gums. I think if you get to that point you would need emergency care before the morning... Thank goodness for home testing!

I agree giving reduced dose of insulin without food is not a problem as alison has said . Jesse has done it no problem but its a good idea to test for first time like any other routine

It maybe an opportunity to see how it works for bagel you may be surprised how her numbers end up. this may prepare you if it ever happens again

She has never had a low before...and it was 325 before dinner...

She has been sleeping for the last hour since she threw the rest up...

I am sooo praying it is not pancreatitis....

I'm sorry Bagel's not well. I agree with Alison's advice. Glad she was here to address the lysodren. I'd check bg's periodically tonight.

If she's still unwell in the morning, do you have the number for your regular vet? Perhaps you could run things by him/her and decide if she needs to go to the ER.

But as Alison said, if she goes low tonight and won't eat, I'd head to the emergency so they could give a glucose drip if needed.

Pancreatitis crossed my mind as well. The ER could run a test for it tomorrow if she's still unwell in the morning.

Sorry to hear that Bagel's tummy is upset. I think actually I would intentionally withhold food tomorrow morning and give 1/4 of the usual insulin dose as long as the blood sugar is at least 200. If it's less, maybe reduce the dose a bit more.

Any time I have a critter with diarrhea or throwing up, I withhold food for at least 24 hours to give the stomach a chance to rest.

OH Natalie I JUST saw your post.....AFTER I DID the following......do you think we'll be Ok??

here is what I just posted.

Well she slept fine all night.
Her Bgs were 187 which is much lower for HER but a great number...

She ate her DCO with a tiny bit of deli turkey just fine...I cut the amount of kibble a little..

I gave her 20 U instead of 22 of insulin....
All is well an hour later...

Her poop was solid this morning....

Could this have just been a fluke from hell?

too much water drinking that caused her to throw it all up?

Allergies to the extreme pollen?

I am walking on eggshells and hoping I did the right thing with food and insulin...

will leave her for 4 hours to go to church- neighbor checking in hopefully in this cold rainy weather today...
