I have a BD sharps container on my counter. In AZ, we can just toss them in the regular trash, but you have to clearly mark to not "recycle" the plastic container, so I write little messages on the side like "Please do not recycle this container - it really is what it says it is" or "Only a moron would try to recycle this container". I've been thinking about using the phrase "Used by a dog".
Of course, since no prescription is needed for syringes in AZ (and they are really cheap), I feel pretty confident that no one is going to be dumpster-diving for needles here because they can make more than the cost with a cardboard sign at an intersection in no time.
