Hello Everyone!
So this is not my first time on the forum but it has been many years. My baby Dany was diagnosed many years ago and did very well, but he has since passed. So I am well versed in caring for a diabetic dog, however Dany was on Vetsulin and never had any issues with it or being regulated. Today I am on here as another dog in my household has been diagnosed. "Tuesday" is a 23lb cackapoo about 7 years old. She is a rescue and the owner (whos home I live in) is not able to financially do bg curves. I have ordered a meter meter and strips so waiting on those. I have Humulin N from walmart and u100syringes. The vet who diagnosed her is horrible. He said give her 10 units and sent the owner on their way. I was lucky to be able to speak with a internal med. spcialist who advised based on the weight I provided 25-30 lbs (I was not sure) to start her at 6 units. So while I am waiting on the meter to do the home bg curve, but I have some concerns. First her bg was 485 at 4pm when tested at vet last food was at 7 am. My concern: I have noticed she is Panting like crazy and cant seem to sit still approx 1 hour after her injections and it lasts several hours. She does not demonstrate any signs I know of for hypo or hyper but she does pant like crazy. In the morning before her food she seems her best and acts basically normal. She eat, gets her injection and then about 1 hour later starts panting. I have the urin sticks to test for the mean time, and she has been either in the middle or higher end of the test strip. I am worried that either she is allergic to the Humulin or maybe the dose is worng? I have not found any info on panting except for 1 person on this forum. So I am hoping maybe someone will have some advice! Again, she is 7 years old, on 6 units of Humulin N (walmart) every 12 hours (6:30 am/pm) u100, eating science diet light 1/2 cup twice a day with jennie o turkey (will be switching to WD) Any thoughts and advice would be VERY appreciated! I really want to help this little dog and I know everyone on here is very knowledgeable. Thank you very much!!!
