We've had 2 (maybe 3?) pop up on the board before this young. But it's definitely not as common.

As much as I would like to take on this young one, after spending the weekend with my 2 other rescued 'boys', I think it best that I not try to adopt him. Hank and Sugar came into my life almost 10 years ago and even though they are 'BFFs', there is some jealousy there. I think bringing in any other dog would break Hank's heart. And they wouldn't want another to share their half of my bed.

Sorry for getting everybody's hopes up. I'm sure with that face and the response he got here, somebody will take him to a forever home.

I always appreciate when someone can objectively assess what they are able to take on. You have such a huge heart! Give Hank and Sugar some love for us. I'll try to keep track of this boy and see how things turn out.

Kudos to you! I've always said it's good to know our strengths and weaknesses. Easier said than done when it come to animals (well anyone actually) in need for me!

Feb 22nd -

We have some exciting and sad news. Many of you have followed Witten's story. He was surrendered to GRRALL when he was diagnosed with diabetes. Unfortunately, we were not able to stabilize his glucose levels and the vets we had consulted with didn't really know where to go from here. A&M referred Witten to UC Davis. UC Davis isn't exactly commuting distance but the Golden Retriever Rescue community came through and the closest rescue to UC Davis said they'd be happy to take Witten. Thank youHomeward Bound Golden Retriever Rescue for taking in our sweet boy. His foster flew with him to California this AM and he has been safely delivered. No more snow for Witten. Just green grass and the best medical care in the country. I know there were some tears shed by his fantastic foster family but we all know this is the best thing for our little man.

It takes a pack and this is an amazing story of many volunteers, here and in California, who worked so hard to get this puppy into an environment where he can be cared for medically, ensuring he is safe and happy and grows to become a thriving young dog. Thanks to everyone who made this happen!

What great news for this little guy. Hope he enjoys his grass and sun (a bit envious here) and that his new team of specialists are able to find the perfect balance for his puppy and diabetic needs.
