My Jenny was in the 400's to 600's for a couple of months while we slowly increased her dose.

Also, he isn't getting into anything outside is he? Barb's Abby was sneaking off and eating bird food from under the feeders raising her blood sugar.

hang in there. you have been so patient and tried so many things. How is Bogie acting?
Thank you Judi, Jessie girl and Craig,

I guess I just need to take a step back and take a deep breath... Bogie is doing really well... If it wasn't for the occasional panting and the weight loss which he looks as though he may have put a little back on. He acts like a very healthy boy. I know he tries to eat bugs outside from time to time but otherwise I don't believe he is getting into anything else.

Great news his 10am BG was down to 239 that is his lowest number so far
I just get so worried and then want to do whatever I have to fix my guys.

Unless something drastic comes about and fingers crossed it doesn't I will hold off on the cushings test. If I can get Bogies BG down I will request a new blood panel first and go from there. I also found the name of a internal specialist not far from my home so if it gets to the point we have to test further I will take him there for a second opinion but I am hoping that is just information that I can put in the back of my file cabinet so to speak.

I'll post the rest of the curve tonight and thank you all for putting up with my nervous Nelly attitude.

Also, I ordered the Chemstix buddingartist recommended

    Thanks again,

That's great that there is movement. Has he been on it long enough that you can do another increase?

Lucky for both of us we found each other. I'd do it all again girly.

Great improvement! Thinking about another 1/4 unit increase?

Very nice numbers! I'll agree on that quarter unit increase as well. You're getting closer so don't want to overshoot with too large of an increase. Hugs!

                    Hi BogiesMom
If, using the Chemstix, you suspect a UTI and take him to the vet, ask that they do a lab analysis to confirm.

I am almost embarassed to share this but after we reached the $10K mark for the first year of Buddy's care, I stopped keeping track of the costs as I was getting quite concerned.

We once had to take him to another vet in the area who was the only one who did ultrasound. They insisted on another series of bloodwork and pee analysis and they gave me the report which listed all the <big words< which matched the Chemstix. That's right, they were using the Chemstix and charging me $70. for it.

Subsequent to that, I had to take Buddy in suspecting a UTI and I asked what kind of test they would do, and sure enough, they said they would confirm using the Chemstix. I simply pulled out my bottle of strips and told them to use one of mine. Afterward, they did the lab analysis to confirm the UTI.

The joke of it all is they gave me $credit for using one of my strips and my husband was completely embarrassed.

Looks like Bogie is making progress. With the levemir you don't see the large fluctuations in bg so it does make sense that the 1/4u increases it will take time. Much better to err on the side of caution though and move slowly as you've been doing. You've showed great patience in this process - hoping soon you'll have the results you've been wanting for Bogie!

                          • ?? About Flagyl and BG

Well, Last night Bogie starting getting soft slimy poops so I took him into the vet this morning and We caught him in the early stage of colitis. My vet put him on flagyl 250mg twice a day for 7 days. He had been on this years ago and it always works so well.
My question is??? Should I expect his BG to be higher while on this med or will it be unaffected? As usual I left the vets office and forgot to ask
                            Thanks

They may go higher while you are on it. It's definitely something to watch for. Hank doesn't tend to change much with that particular med but a lot of dogs do. Glad you caught it early! Hugs!

                                Hi , Bogie is georgeous!

I think in humans and pehaps dogs Flagyl ( or metronidazole) can sometimes make you feel a bit sicky, just wanted to warn you that Bogie may be a bit off his food when taking it, It certainly makes me feel qweezy when I have had to have it. It is a very good antibiotic though for tummy upsets so hope he is feeling better soon. As you say it usually works well for him so hopefully nothing to worry about!
