We got Brandon on Monday from a friend. He's about 5 and has diabetes. His previous owner showed us how to give him his shot about 7-7:30 no later than 8 pm on Monday.
We were told by her to give them 12 hours apart so 8 am Tuesday, we gave it. However, we had been having issues giving the shot and we are pretty sure there were several times he did not get the full dose or only a bit of it.
We have it better under control, however, now he is whimpering/crying earlier (about 2 hours) than the time his next shot is. We've taken him to the bathroom so that isn't it. We're not sure if he is crying because he needs his insulin or because he's hungry or what.
Should we do a diabetic curve? He gets 6 ml in the day and 6 at night. What's the earliest we can give the medicine? Is 9 hours apart too soon? 10?
Should I take him to his vet or call his vet? We are super new to this. Never had a diabetic animal before.
Also he pees frequently. We limit his water to the best of our ability but we dont want him to dehydrate.
Any advice, suggestions, thoughts, ideas would be super helpful. Thank you.
