Just tried the frozen green been treat! All 3 of my dogs loved them. We have generally only ever given them veggies as treats.

This is so hard.coco is your guide.
Sissy always got steamed veges.green beans, broccoli, cauliflower, Brussel sprouts, etc,but since she's had tummy trouble, she cant handle them at all.
You will have to go by what Coco can tolerate. ..glad she is having some interest and a little energy back lol.thats always a good sign

Coco poor appetite low energy recurrent UTI

          Hi All,
It has been almost 2 years for Coco and we have learned what her normal is.
Recently she is not doing too well, about a month ago her pancreatitis had a little flare up, seemed to be ok. We take her for diabetic check up every 3 months her labs are ok, something is usually a little elevated, and last 2 times she has had a uti. She is very stoic so hard to detect.
For about the last 3-4 weeks she has not had her full appetite, at Christmas I switched her food and overdosed her insulin, Luckily I was home and noticed how weak/tired/low sugar she was(this was scary) about 3 days ago she stopped eating her food. So I'm making her chicken breast and sweet potato, she's eating half portion.
She's always been a strange one, I feel she's tired of food and probably upset tummy so she puts her nose up to it and doesn't eat, if I were to put down something new that she's not allowed to have shed gobble and get sick or throw up! This little one is stressing me out.
I think I just needed to vent a little Time to get her back into specialist for peace of mind.

My concern is she's lost some weight, weak and only eating 1/4-1/2 portion of food. I recently put her back on Cerenia because if she gobbles a full portion she seems to throw up. Then at bedtime she will start pacing in and out a lot which makes it hard for me to sleep, she goes out doggy door, I think to look for grass to eat/or because of discomfort. She also always has scabby white scaly hind leg she bites at(has had this off and on since about 5uears old diagnosed diabetic at 9. Thanks for listening any suggestions appreciated 300-550 every 3 months to specialty vet is hurting, I was just there a month ago and need to go ASAP.
Sorry for long post and thanks everyone for kindness and support

well you may have to change the feeding habits if you are having some chronic pancreatic attacks .

some give smaller and more meals during the day . i went the other direction with jesse and only give her one meal a day who has not had an attack since we made the switch .

if it is the pancreas it needs to rest and heal . sometimes this is a priority over diabetes

            hope things improve soon
Jesse-26 lbs - 16.5 years old ,11 years diabetic, one meal a day homemade and a vitabone snack . 3 shots of Novolin( under the Relion name ) a day . Total insulin for a 24 hour period is 6.5 units of NPH insulin .

Re: Coco poor appetite low energy recurrent UTI

Thank you, her food is good, it's when we travel to visit family, she stops eating her food thinking someone will give her something different, and usually has gotten a hold of something when her pancreatitis flares, she hoovers around the house on a major mission for food and crumbs.
I've noticed she is only letting out small amounts of urine, I'm getting her into a vet today, I'm thinking her pancreatitis is flared or possibly kidney stone? She had that issue once when 3 and had it surgically removed. I hope the pancreas needs rest, her specialist has mentioned anesthesia is too risky for her so not sure what they will do if it's stones, she has had a uti with 2 last 3 month check ups.
              Thanks again @jesses girl

Pancreatitis appears to be a likely suspect, especially with the vomiting when you can get her to eat. Hope your vet can resolve the situation for you,

Re: Coco poor appetite low energy recurrent UTI

Yes, the vet believes her pancreatitis is flared not as bad as 2 years ago when first diagnosed but pretty badly.
Poor girl I'm giving her IV fluids, we are upping all her nausea meds hoping this helps with appetite. Vet is hoping I can get her a little better at home, suggested if she does not eat by tomorrow I take her back in to access how bad pancreatitis is. Also hopefully she eats at home so we don't have to admit her to emergency vet hospital. Last time it took over 2 weeks to get her to eat, from previous experience she usually does better at home. Thank you for your response.

Getting them to eat when their pancreas is flared is difficult. Your normal feeding/insulini routine seems to go out the window. Small bites throughout the day is what I had to do for almost a week with my boy,and I had to try many different things to get him to eat anything at all.Guess it took that long for the meds to work for him. Ground turkey breast meat is what finally worked to entice his appetite. Praying you can avoid having to stay at the vet and she can heal at home.

Re: Coco poor appetite low energy recurrent UTI

Thank you!!! Great idea, small bites through out day, I was still trying to stick to twice a day to help her glucose stay in check. Yes trying anything I can on the minimum pancreas diet. Last night I tried white rice and fish, she ate some cottage cheese and rice cake.
This morning I mixed some of the nonfat cottage cheese with the rice and fish and she ate just over half her portion. Now watching her a little that she doesn't throw up, I have not seen more blood on her bum, but seems like only liquid might be coming out. On a posative note, her eyes are white not bloodshot, she's resting a lot, before she was pacing all night, and she's more hydrated.
My coco has always been on most these meds just to keep her under control we just had to up them. Poor girl, but she's looking better. Thanks for insight.

Dealing with pancreatitis now high glucose little stressed

Coco is struggling with pancreatitis things seem to be getting better, but last night she ate a lot of her food and fast afterwards was obviously uncomfortable and cried for 30 minutes. She never cries and is always so strong.
Last night her sugar was also elevated 400, I only gave her 2 units her normal dose is 3, but she hadn't been eating much and we overdosed her a week ago. This morning she was 500 I fed her she ate 3/4 of her food I gave her her normal dose of 3 units at 9:30-10, rechecked at noon she is still 500. This is concerning me. She is usually 100-300 since she has been sick, and insulin has always brought her down. Her specialist is in tomorrow morning I have not called yet. She's eating, she had pretty normal bowel movement, redness is gone from eyes, she's hydrated and getting IV fluids, I'm just concerned her sugar is high.

Tested her sugar at 3 it's 320 so dropped a little. Glad to see it out of that 500 range. Feeling better me and coco. She has some energy and wagging her tail.

I’m glad her levels are coming down. That is so painful for them. My vet let me keep some meds on hand after Jenny had a bout of it
Jenny: 6/6/2000 - 11/10/2014 She lived with diabetes and cushings for 3 1/2 years. She was one of a kind and we miss her.

Re: Coco poor appetite low energy recurrent UTI

I guess under dosing her or her increasing appetite caught up, just time to increase insulin. She's still not interested in kibble and I have to come up with something new for her to eat every third meal. Her glucose was 260 at 9pm so back in a normal range which is great. We are usually able to keep her at low 100 but 260 is great right now. This little girl is taking us on a ride.
She has an appointment on wed, I'll wait for that appointment it's probably best that at least a week has passed to see if any changes in blood.
She went for a little walk today she had a good burst of excitement energy.
                                Thanks for all the help.
We always have Cerenia for throw up/ diarrhea pills, and mirtazapine to help her appetite and iv fluids on hand if ever needed, it's always just been mild issues that resolved with in a day, this one has been scary.
