Thank you Barb Shellie and Patty! yes I am so glad that he is ok and the nasty ulcer has gone. Brought him to the vet this morning and he checked both eyes and he is fine!!

I cant believe its been a year since CJ was diagnosed with diabetes! I could not have survived the last year without the help , advice, suppport and friendship of this forum. I really was struggling until I found this forum and I dont think that CJ would have survived without all of you. So A really BIG Thank You from CJ and from me- you guys are lifesavers!!!

I took this photo today so you can see how well he looks ( hes a bit tired after being at the vet - )

    Hugs to you all

    Anne-Marie and CJ

                              • Re: Cj

Its been a while since I posted an update on CJ. I have been following threads on the forum but have been so busy looking after my little man I have not had a chance.

About a month ago he started his not eating again - not all the time just morning feeds - still 4 feeds a day - then he would not eat in the evening either even chicken which he loves!

I just knew it was his pancreas flaring up again and sure enough after yet another visit to the vet it was confirmed. So I decided that I was not going to let him lose all the weight he gained after the last bout of pancreatitis - it tooks months for him to get to 9.5 - even if it meant feeding him small meals 6-8 times a day.

The vet agreed with me and we also decided to up the dose of FLagyl and Previcox and ranititdine and also to gie him buscopan for the gas in his tummy.

Marlies - the specialist vet that I brought CJ to last year when he had pancreatitis said the most important thing was to get him to eat and not to worry too much about his BG levels that this would sort itself out. He was doing really well numbers wise even on the 4 feeds a day I just sort of tweaked things like making sure he got his walks at certain times which always brings down his BG levels as lot.

So I have been feeding him the same diet - well almost - he gets the same weight and calories ( no egg anymore) but to coax him to eat I seperate the chicken and liver from the dry food as he would not eat them together and then I hand feed him the dry food by just spreading some peanut butter on my hand and rubbing the dry food in it - and he eats it. I also put a little fresh salmon on his food when he wont eat at all and it usually enticed him to start eating as he LOVES fresh poached salmon !!!! He is back to about 5 feeds a day and throughout it all he has not lost any weight and his BG has been between 15 and 5 with the odd crazy number like 2.9 and a 20 one evening . So Marlied was right you can control their BG levels even on numerous feeds a day. He tends to be lower at the morning fasting and evening fasting. I also give him extra insulin in the evening - just .2 extra depending on his evening reading. Good job I test him all the time as he never shows any signs when he is high or low
I have just reduced the flagyl dose today and stopped Previcox and reduced the ranitidine as well. So fingers crossed he is through the worst of it.

SO that it for the moment but it goes to show that every dog is different as I learnt here and that dogs with pancreatitis and diabetes can still have good BG levels!!

                                Hugs
