Default Charlie

My Charlie is a 10 year old Cavalier King Charles Spaniel. He was just diagnosed with diabetes and is currently hospitalized with diabetes ketoacidosis. I stumbled across this forum while researching what's in store for us.

Charlie is an amazing dog. We got him at 1 year old. We weren't planning on adding another dog, but his first owners were going to take him to the pound for basically being an untrained young dog. He helped my (then) teenage daughter get through some dark times. He's comes to my office every day. Our clients love him. Charlie loves everyone he meets, human, k9, cat, rat, whatever it is.

Welcome to the forum! There is a wealth of information and experience here.

Tell us more about Charlie. How much does he weigh? What type of insulin and how much did they put him on? What type of food is he eating? Does he have any medical issues or conditions in his history?

It is a very scary time but this disease can be managed and dogs can lead a pretty normal life - probably more structured than before but totally doable.
