    Re: Scout - just diagnosed

It's good to know that her insulin dose has been brought up considerably.

There's a good possibility that her high blood sugar has at least been contributing to her back leg weakness and that getting her blood sugar better regulated will improve that.

Any lack of nervous function coming from the high blood sugar will not go away immediately - it will fade away gradually after her blood sugar has been in a more normal range for a while.

Until her blood sugar is better regulated, it is hard to know if she has some primary neuropathy unrelated to the diabetes and the high blood sugar made that worse or if it is all related to the high blood sugar.

The knuckling of her feet is a classic symptom of lack of communication over the spinal cord. If it's only the rear legs, then there's a possibility it is mostly the high blood sugar as that is all usually limited to the back legs.

The lack of eating and drinking also may simply be that her blood sugar is so high.

Please ask the vet to give you her blood sugar and ketone readings and post them here so we can see whether she's likely in danger of ketoacidosis and how high her blood sugar has been on the tiny dose of insulin - and hopefully they also know what it is now that she's on 15 units.
