Hi everyone - what an amazing resource you have here - I feel so relieved just reading all the info and stories you have - I think we can do this!
We rescued Kay when she was 20 mos old - and it was a rough first year. We all got into our groove, and have loved being a family for the past 10 years!! She has always enjoyed eating - and so when she started getting picky 2 weeks ago - we were concerned, but just thought it was the diva in her. She would still eat treats - and the occasional people food my son would sneak. She started waking us frequently overnight to go out - and this was strange. Monday she started vomiting and was getting progresssively listless throughout the day - so she saw her regular vet that afternoon. He stated she was in an "advanced dka state" - and we should bring her back Tuesday am for fluids and insulin - but he was also forthcoming in stating that his office is not a 24 hr hospitall - and did give me a recommendation for one if that is what we would choose. I had NO IDEA what was right - but I like his office - so we took her home with the plan to return Tue am.
Needless to say she got worse - and by 11pm she was admitted to a 24hr vet hospital, which is where she is right now.
She has been on the continuous insulin and IV fluids since late Monday night - she is now holding down food and only "spilling" small ketones. They hope to have her onto shots this afternoon - and will probably come home Friday morning. I am NERVOUS about what to have here for her - and being properly prepared!!! I've watched the videos regarding testing and administration - and have read quite a bit on your site.
Here is her info thus far-
