Speaking from experience, my dog was diagnosed weeks ago and still not regulated. I messed it up for a while by trying to correct, adjusting on the fly, and not giving each dosage a few days for his body to adjust, do a curve, and then increase. Sugar has been high all this time but we will get there. No immediate danger according to my vet. As long as ketones don't get high and he's eating/drinking and feeling OK.
Regulation can take weeks.
Don't get hung up on the numbers at first, look at the curve shape and trend. Work towards regulation methodically, not like I did (but I am now.)
