Hello I am new to the forum and I'm here to see if anybody could offer me some advice/suggestions. My 10 year old silkie/yorkie (15 lbs) was recently diagnosed with diabetes. The 1st week we started on 2 units, and immediately he stopped urinating all over my carpets and floors. That lasted about a week then he started urinating again, not as much, but still destroying my carpet/floor. The 2nd visit he upped it to 3 units (2 times per day, btw). He's still urinating... we have a visit again this week. I'm thinking he'll up it again, and I understand it'll take a while, but I'm curious why it originally stopped and then changed. Couple questions - what can I do to stop him from going in doors? I feel bad yelling at him because he can't help it. I let him out as much as possible when I'm home and put down weewee pads, but he doesn't go on them. Also could someone suggest an otc, not Science Diet (hates it), food that would work with his diet? Either dog or human. I'm open to suggestions as W/D is quite pricy. Lastly any suggestions on how to get him to be ok with at home testing? He won't let me come near his ears... I'm thinking I'll do that after he gets stabilized, but if I can't get it to work I'll have to take him in ($50/test). Obviously I'll do anything for him to feel better, but I'm not made outta money!
