Re: New Automatic Injection Device
Hi Annie, sorry, I've been trying to respond, but my wife had her own ideas about my time management today and her idea of how my time is managed usually (always) takes precedence over mine
Sorry to hear you're having trouble. I've never had a needle bend while using the AutoJect, so I'm not sure how much help I'll be, but I'll try.
I'm sure you already know this, but I'm grasping at straws, so I'll mention it anyway. The AutoJect comes with two needle depth adjusters and you need to choose the correct one from the chart in their instructions based on the syringe size (1.0ml, 0.5ml, or 0.3ml) and needle length (1/2" or 5/16") that you use, so make sure you are using the correct needle adjuster. Because I like having the 1/2 unit markings, I always use the 0.3 ml syringe with the 1/2" needle, which for Relion is the 29 gauge, so I use the shorter adjuster. I'm not sure what to tell you about the needle gauge. If you're using the Relion syringes, as far as I know, the only 1/2" needle is the 29 gauge. Not sure about other brands because other than the AlphaTrak, I use whatever is the cheapest equipment and supplies I can find which is usually the Wal-Mart Relion brand. If you aren't sure about which adjuster to use, let me know what syringe you are using with your short needle and we'll try to make sure you're using the right one. I'm just wondering if you're using the wrong adjuster for the short needle. I like the longer 1/2" needle 1. because I feel it gives me more adjustment options, from almost zero to nearly the full 1/2", plus Bailey really doesn't like short needles. They inject too near the skin surface and cause him pain. He's a big baby, but he's the one getting stabbed so we do it his way.
Also, make sure that the needle & syringe are fairly centered. You can look in the end and see where the needle is. I'm just wondering if somehow the needle is catching on the side. Maybe this could happen with a short needle if it wasn't centered, especially if you are using a short needle with a long adjuster. Just a thought.
Another thought is I'm wondering where you're injecting. Min Pin's are all muscle and bone and I wondered if you were hitting a rib. I use to move around a lot on Bailey, but now I do left flank, right flank, left belly, right belly and then start the rotation over again.
As I said, I've never had a needle bend with the AutoJect, so I'm just making guesses right now.
OK, one more thought. I always seem to have one more. The AutoJect has two versions. One for fixed needle syringes and one for removable needle syringes. The fixed needle part # is AJ 1300 and the removable needle is AJ 1311. Just want to make sure you got the right one. Something else I need to include in my original post that I didn't think about.
Let me know how it's going.
