Jesse Girl,

And also state laws. I am not able to titer for Rabies in North Carolina... They will euthanize dogs that are not up to date on rabies... quite strict here in NC.

Interesting article... Do any of you know what the cost difference (in general, I'm sure it will vary by area) is between getting a vaccination done and doing a titer instead?

Our dogs are only due for Distemper/Parvo this year, and I'm thinking it may be better to titer them to see if they really need it, instead of just assuming this time.

Hi Mandy,

In our case, it was about $20-$30 difference, titering was more. Strange, isn't it, that Titer would cost more than the vaccine themselves?

I can't find the more recent invoice but in '08 it was $79 which seems high to me. A bulk of the cost may have been where they sent it and the shipping fee.

Ali was vac for distemper/parvo as a pup and always showed the appropriate level of antibodies for the rest of her life. I never re-vaccinated for these.

Here's another article from the Whole Dog Journal from 2010 http://www.whole-dog-journal.com/iss...s_20036-1.html

Patty,

My cost was $80.00 for the titering, so perhaps your $79.00 was not out of range.

Wow, seems a bit expensive. I wonder if it's something they can do as part of the CBC, or if they would still charge separately for it? I'll have to ask the vet the next time we bring Dakota in.
