Sorry Bonnie, but what a nice gesture to try and help the little fella!
My son has tortoises and he lives in AZ and their back yards don't have normal fences, but are closed in with cinder block walls...so he would let them roam around in the back yard when he was home instead of always being in the aquarium. Well, his girlfriend was dog sitting for a friend, and they didn't think much of it, but this dog attacked the turtle in the yard and chewed it up pretty badly. She felt so bad that she took him to the vet. The vet said that the shell can heal, but he had internal injuries also
so they ended up putting him to sleep
