  • Gentel Lancing Device

Hello. Has anyone used a "painless" Genteel Lancing Device? The reviews state this is a pain free way to get a droplet of blood for testing. It uses a lancet and vacuum out the blood anywhere. It s made for humans, but on the reviews many people are using it on their fur babies stating the dog can be sleeping when they get the sample and never wake up. I am just curious before I purchase for $100.00 it really does work and is painless. THANK YOU, I look forward to your comments. THANK YOU for all of your comments.

I found a couple of recent posts on the Genteel and have read good things about it. Certainly worth a try if you are having difficulty.

Until I get him regulated, I'm going to use the alphatrak2. It's cheaper than going to the vet for curves!

      Re: Gentel Lancing Device

I bought the Genteel but had trouble getting blood because there has to a complete seal around the tip for the vacuum function to work.

They sent me smaller tips and larger lancets to try. I had a bit of success but it was hit and miss. The only place I could have enough skin area to use it, was at the base of his tail on either side. I shaved those areas and pressed the device as firmly as I could, but many times I couldn't get a complete seal because his skin is flexible of course, and any hair seems to keep it from making a tight seal. The flesh needs to be firm and as hairless as possible. And you use the thinnest tip.

I tried the device on myself (forearm) and it worked fine.

Not to say it won't work, but I had too many failures and ended up going back to a regular lance device and using his ear.

For what it's worth... I never purchased a lancing device. I simply use the last spent syringe to poke Scooters skin.

With the Walmart ReliOn meter I need so little blood this works just fine. I find a spot where there is a small callus on his back and poke there.

I've even done this while he's asleep and he never awakes.

I purchased it and so glad I did. I first tried it on myself of course and it did not hurt at all. I use it on my mini schnauzers ears. At first she jumped but not because of the prick but because of the little snap/pop sound it made but after the second day she got used to it and now just lays there and lets me test her with no problem. I was reluctant at first because of the price but so glad I made the purchase. Amazon has it for $99. with free shipping if you have amazon prime.

I got your message about having problems with high blood sugar. Can you fill us in here about what's going on?

              Re: Gentel Lancing Device

I know this post is old but I happened to find it and I didn’t want to make a whole new post.

Is this device pretty big? I normally check my Pomeranian mix on his duclaw paw pads and I always have to use a tiny bit of petroleum jelly to get the blood to pool. I was wondering if the Genteel device would take away me having to use the jelly every time. I’ve seen multiple people use it on the base on the tail and I might eventually use there as well but I was just wondering if it was capable of being used on the smaller paw pads.

I also see that PetTest also has soemthing called a genteel lancing device. Do y’all get that one or the human one?

There is a much less expensive version that works wonderfully, called the Droplet.
                Search Amazon, approx $22.
