I only fed jesse one meal a day and a shot of insulin for most of her diabetic life without a meal but i did give her a vitabone with that injection . I think it worked out to a quarter to a third...

Its possible even the 6.5 could be to high and all you have is less insulin working to remove excess sugar

You do have a problem with large swings in blood sugar

The food seems decent that you are feeding and probably is not a problem. unless the allergies are tied to it . Allergies may have an affect more so on the medication taken as steriods can elevate...

Yes that is a higher dose than normal but some dogs need more insulin

Now it is possible the dose could be to much as you said levels are better for a brief period after doing a dose adjustment...

Actually the low reading was probably an error more than likely . I seen this on occasion when I did not get enough blood on the strip and had to retest . You would think you would get an error...

I fed my Jesse a homemade diet once a day for most of her 11 years being diabetic . Also I gave her a daily dose of meil thistle for her last 5 years which appeared to help with digestion .

I would not worry about it to much but if you are seeing numbers below 80 or sttep drops in sugar in a short time you can see rebound to higher levels and many times you did not catch the event ....

Glad Bella is feeling better . My jesse had it also early in her diagnosis of diabetes . You do see quite a bit of it in diabetic dogs . The higher sugar may have created an imbalance in the brain ....

I think raising the dose to what is considered insulin resistant which is your dogs weight total to the amount of insulin for one dose of insulin . An example would be a 10 pound dog getting 10...

You could make the switch to nph insulin and usually you can buy it from walmart for about $25 without a prescription with syringes and go it alone without a vets supervision which is what I did with...
