    Hi
I am going to start checking Max's bg at home. My vet recommended I get

      Re: One touch ultra

We used a OneTouch Ultra exclusively for Chris' diabetes management. It has a very good reputation for testing canine blood sugar.

      We loved it!

I did have an AlphaTrak and ran some checks of the two meters side by side. Regardless of type of meter, they all "estimate" blood sugar as they don't count actual glucose molecules. The use an algorithm to calculate the reading.

Which is fine. You don't need to know if it's 200 or 220. You need to know if it's 200 or 400. Small variations are entirely normal and even occasional off days when the blood sugar is higher than normal for some reason.

Trends, not individual readings are what's important.
